Hello World! Well it's been 5 weeks now since I moved here and all it ever does is rain! It wouldn't be so bad if there was anything to do, but at the minute I have to hide indoors and watch the football! This week I had two first experiences, the first being Nutella gelato (most amazing thing I've ever put in my mouth) and the second being opera. We went to two operas, both about Figaro, but we only got half-way through the second one because the girls all fell asleep. Got to say though that I didn't hate it, just would have enjoyed it more if I'd understood what the hell was going on! On Thursday I went back to Turin again to go to the Egyptian Museum and the Palace of the King, ... read more

Hello all! I am back from Rome, where I celebrated my 25th Birthday. Sorry I have not posted sooner, but since I got back (very late) Monday night I have been non-stop busy! We had a really nice time and the weather held out almost for the whole weekend, which was a bonus! On Friday we flew into Rome, myself from Turin and Bex from London. Before I left for Italy we spent hours planning and co-ordinating our flights so that we could arrive at the same airport at a similar time. Bex's flight was due to land 20 minutes before mine so we agreed to meet by the luggage carousel as I was sure it would only be a small airport. However when I got there, there was no Bex so I called and text ... read more

Hello World! This week the homesickness finally hit me! The town I live in is very small and everybody knows each other so as I can't speak to anyone it can get a bit boring and lonely sometimes. Was talking to the mum about it and the next day she took me to get my hair and nails done and she bought me a necklace and bracelet to wear to the dad's birthday party, it was very sweet. Yesterday night we had a massive surprise party for the dad's birthday with about 100 people! Was very strange as everybody knew who I was, but I had no idea who they were so everywhere I went they were calling out "Sophie, Sophie..." Found a few more people who can speak English though, so that was good. Next ... read more

Hello again! This weekend was my first proper one in Italy and I was very busy. On Saturday after I finished work at 1.30pm, Ashley and I went to see a classic car show that was happening near where I lived. It was very humid so after we thought we would treat ourselves to a gelato as we had cycled there! Nom nom nom! Today we went to Turin which has a lot of random things to do and see (including the 'Museum of Fruit'?!). It was cold, grey, windy and wet, so we hid in the museum of cinema which was quite interesting. It shows how films, the way we know and love them today, have come to be from the very first moving picture. Inside the museum there is also a scary lift which ... read more

Hello again, As I mentioned yesterday, today the girls and I took place in a 5km 'race' around Ivrea town centre. Thankful the weather held out and it was actually quite sunny. We started off running but I walked for most of it, as I didn't realise just how beautiful it was here so spent most of the time taking photos (as you can see here). Completed the whole course in 45mins, which isn't bad considering I walked 2 thirds of the way round! Also noticed today that Italian men like to run in really, really tight cycling shorts which means you get a preview before the main attraction. Saw a couple of potential Mr Sophia's, so lets see.... Think I am going to get very fat living here, the meals are massive!! To start with ... read more

Ciao lovelies, After having to get up at 3am this morning to go to the airport (thanks mum for taking me) and having to pay £220 for my overweight luggage (total cost to get out here now £340!), I am finally here in Ivrea. The family have been very friendly and welcoming and the presents I bought the girls went down very well. Finally got unpacked, my room is very nice and big with an en-suite bathroom. It is attached to the house, but has a separate entrance so feels more like I have my own little apartment! They have a massive old labrador, who tries to run away every time the gate opens which is going to be fun. The girls and I are taking part in a 5km walk around the town tomorrow which ... read more
