View from hotel room
This is the view from our hotel room in Milano Marittima.
Arrived at Malpensa airport at 06.30 on Wednesday morning after 2 long flights from Melbourne to Singapore and then onto Milan. Ensured Lee got on her bus to Milan safely and then went with Bikestyle staff and fellow cyclists to our hotel near the airport. After booking in, time for a morning ride to stretch the legs and check out bike. Navigated our way with Steve Cunningham as our guide (Savings & Loans, 100 mile winner and ex pro) to the Naviglio Grande, which is a canal connecting Milan to Lake Maggiore since the 12th century. There is a bike path along the canal that is used by locals and visitors alike. Covered about 50K and then back towards the hotel for lunch at a small restaurant on the way. Time for another 50K ride in the afternoon with information about the big split in the Giro coming through on mobiles.
On the bus on Thursday morning after some desired and necessary sleep as we travel to the east coast of Italy to Milano Marittima in a different region of Italy. We have four nights here right on the coast but there are a few hills nearby to test the legs and good rides along the coast.
Meals have been good so far so the standard has been set for the ensuing venues to match or surpass.
Group seems pretty good with a cross section of experience and ages. Have met new people as well as quite a few previous suspects from other tours, so looking forward to some laughs and good times on the bike and in the bar.
