As we tried to outrun the weather we consulted the maps and decided to head to Mantova in the hope that perhaps we might find some of that elusive sunshine. This has been the oddest holiday so far with some of the worse weather we have even seen. If it didnt rain in the morning then it rained in the afternoon. If we escaped the rain in the day it poured down at night. We have had little luck with the weather this year. We had been to Mantova before and planned just a small amount of sightseeing and to take a meal on the square in what would hopefully be evening sunshine. Beforehand we had picked our site Sparafucile a sort of cross between a municipal site and a camping club of Mantova site. We ... read more

We had a plan A today and that was to go back to the Lake, board a boat for Sirmione the little town we could see across the lake and spend the day there. There is not a lot there apart from a small castle, some Roman remains and a few bars and cafes. The idea was to see the castle, the scavi (the remains ) have some lunch, waste a bit of time before returning home to Perschiera for tea time and a leisurely meal and passagiata. We both could not agree on what time the boat left the harbour. I plumped for 8.30 and Glenn 9.05. One of us had to be right. On the way we saw a boat heading out and I thought that I was right and Glenn wrong however as we ... read more

Geo: 44.8423, 10.2457Caught the train to Mantua because I have seen photos of this city and it looked like a place worth visiting. Part of the city is surrounded by city walls. It was really quiet, not many tourists around. I went to the palace first. Wasn't allowed to take any photos in the palace, but it was really beautiful inside. Part of the palace incorporates the castle. There are over 500 rooms and 15 courtyards here. There is heaps of artwork here that has been collected by the governing families over the last 500 years. It took me a while to walk through the palace and listen to all the information on my audio guide- most of which is have know forgotten! Walked through the streets and came to the Rotonda of San Lorenzo. A ... read more
