Frescoes on the ceiling of the entrance to a courtyard at the palace. Geo: 44.8423, 10.2457
Caught the train to Mantua because I have seen photos of this city and it looked like a place worth visiting. Part of the city is surrounded by city walls. It was really quiet, not many tourists around. I went to the palace first. Wasn't allowed to take any photos in the palace, but it was really beautiful inside. Part of the palace incorporates the castle. There are over 500 rooms and 15 courtyards here. There is heaps of artwork here that has been collected by the governing families over the last 500 years. It took me a while to walk through the palace and listen to all the information on my audio guide- most of which is have know forgotten! Walked through the streets and came to the Rotonda of San Lorenzo. A small round church that has sunken below street level. Caught the train back to Montagnana and entered the city through the main entrance where the small castle is. As usual, all the locals stopped and stared at the tourist!
