Day 23 : Saturday 28 September 2019 : Air show and Bellagio steal the show Interesting, it seems there’s an air show on. Supposed to start at 10am, we weren’t sure if we’d be able to see it. We watched for a little while and saw a bit and decided to head down. Graham is super excited, I was more disappointed that the ferries weren’t running. But it turned out to be very good. There were people everywhere, the place was packed. Pretty amazing, especially the fighter jets flying in formation. Quite easy to see with the mountains in the background and flying above the lake. Its still a little misty though.
The air show is likely to be the highlight of Graham’s trip. Something that we could never have anticipated.
After that when the ferries (€60) reopened, we headed off to Menaggio, across the lake. A look around and takeaway pizza (€15) overlooking that amazing lake. Why would you want to sit at a restaurant on a back street, this view and place is gorgeous.
Moving onto Bellagio. This is supposed to be the amazingly pretty place that all the photos are from. OMG I understand
why all the photos are taken here. It is breathtakingly beautiful. It’s just like the photos. The colours, the stairs, the shops and the cobblestone streets. Magnificent.
We walked northwards to the Punta Spartivento. Great viewing area, just want to stand there and take it all in. Debated hiring a boat to have wine and nibbles the following night, but you don’t need a boat to enjoy the views. We walked through town and then out of curiosity unintentionally headed over to the port on the East side, the Bellagio Porticciolo di Pescallo. It was sensational. The sun was going down, so we headed back to the main town. Grabbed some dinner (bit ordinary €52). Then head down the to the waterfront to catch a ferry back. There just doesn’t seem to be many people, or ferries, it’s dark and not many people around. We watch ferries come in and then leave again further down the road. Turns out that the return ferry is caught down the road and we just missed it. Not another one for another hour. Well, the only option is a couple of wines at a waterfront bar and wait an hour. Surprisingly, although we
red this was an expensive town, the wines were quite cheap with waterfront views to boot. We walk down the to the ferry and met up with some lovely UK people and chatted all the way back. Time to head up the hill for home. Light is needed. Another great day.
