We woke to the most fantastic view of the sun rising over Lake Iseo. This is our second day on the lake and we set the alarm early so that we could walk into town to catch the 9.31 train to Brescia . Ok I have jumped ahead of myself . I imagine you are wondering what happened after failing to get the tyre in Rovereto. We made the decision to head to Lake Garda where there was another Pneus Market and we hoped it would be bigger and might just have our tyre size in. Finding it was difficult. Spagetti Junction has nothing on the tangenziale in Desenzano. We drove down the road and Sally Sat Nag informed us we were a few minutes away from the depot . We could see it on the ... read more

So, I have been living in Brescia, Italy for exactly 2 weeks now and the time has flown by, but it also feels like I have been here for years. I think after this it will begin to get a little strange because it will start to hit me that this isn't a holiday, and I'm actually here for a while. To be exact, I'm here for 3 months, which maybe doesn't seem like a long time to some people, but I've never been far from home, even in University I was only an hours drive away. The pangs of homesickness have hit me a few times so far, but they are nothing a skype call and some cheap wine can't fix. I am here in Brescia because I am taking part in a scheme that ... read more

Uploading photos has been difficult, so yesterday’s comment about the scarf salesman appears in today’s photos. Rainy and chilly, again. The umbrella purchase is paying off. Evidently March was wonderful here, in the 80s, but not now. Everyone is in their winter attire, down jackets, scarves, and hats. Today, we rode a bus up to Gardone, Val Trompia, city in a valley north of Brescia that eventually leads on up to the Alps. The cities lie along the road in the bottom of the valley with hills/mountains going up from both sides. The purpose of this trek was to visit the Zoli gun factory where Art’s sporting clay rifle was made. Via email with a woman at the Museum of Weapons, I’d made a reservation to visit the factory, but I didn’t know exactly where it ... read more

THE TEXT FOR THE PREVIOUS ENTRY GOT ALL MESSED UP. THE PHOTOS ARE OK, SO LOOK AT THEM AND THEN READ HERE. THIS IS WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY: Yesterday, Sally took one last photo of a mosaic floor in the Galleria near the Duomo in Milano. Like tossing a coin in the Trevi Fountain to come back, Milano has a similar custom. Well, maybe not so similar. You are supposed to step on the balls of the mosaic bull and spin around for good luck. Our guide said they have to replace that mosaic every couple years. After very few hours of sleep last night, we left Milano this morning via train heading for Brescia. I think we were too hiped from the opera to sleep. The train was crowded, and Sally and I ... read more

The train was crowded, and Sally and I sat separately, she with an cute elderly couple (probably not a lot older than us) and I sat with a couple, their baby, and her mother, all from Moroco and ... read more
