After breakfast and a quick trip to the supermarket we double parked outside Raechel's place and packed then headed off towards Riomaggiore. We decided to take a scenic route and drove through the mountains which was very picturesque. We saw a helicopter medical evacuation and the Carrera marble mountains. We stopped for lunch at Lucca and ate leftover pizza, tomatoes on crackers and iced tea in the shade of the city walls. It was again very hot! We had a quick look around the walls and then headed off.

The drive from La Spezia to Riomaggiore was spectacular with lots of viewpoints. We arrived at Riomaggiore just before five and found a traffic jam. When we got to the front they were not letting anyone in to park, so Raechel rang the hotel and was told there was one spot left but she didn't know if we would fit! We decided to give it a go and they were right, it was a very tight fit! It was still very hot and we walked down the very steep hill to find the reception. We had two separate apartments, one right in the middle of the main street and the other on the marina. Mum, dad, Emily and Jemima took the apartment on the marina and it had a spectacular view but the steps up were killer! We then trudged up the hill to get our bags and there was some repacking so we didn't have to carry all our stuff. Walked back down and settled in and then we met Oliver, Jana, Lewin and Roman for dinner. We had a nice dinner down by the water. The kids all had gelati and we parted ways to meet again in the morning at 10.
