So, I'll be up front about my physical condition right now: I don't think I should've eaten the pizza at the Indian restaurant yesterday. Draw your own conclusions from that. Things are much better now, but it has taken its toll on me throughout the day.
Otherwise, today has been rather relaxed. We had a good breakfast again at the hotel before checking out just before 10 AM. Then we walked down towards the train station and found a nice outdoor café where we did a little writing and reading. Eno did some journaling and then some work that she brought with her. I wrote my postcards and then read part of a book I had started reading last summer but let it fall by the wayside when school picked back up. I later finished it on the train. We had to wait around because the train to La Spezia today only took 80 minutes, but we couldn't check in to our hotel until 3 PM. So we had some enjoyable moments in the coolness of the morning while we read, wrote, and just chilled. After lunch at the train station, we took an uneventful train ride to La Spezia,
where we're staying until Saturday. The hotel isn't that bad, but there's no a/c and the bathroom is shared between all the rooms on the hall (as far as I can tell).
I needed to take a nap, since my internal processes had worn me out most of the day, but Eno found out where we need to go tomorrow morning to take a boat along the coast to visit some of the villages in Cinque Terre. We also found out that several of the trails between the towns are closed (and have been for some time), so we won't get to hike as much as we had anticipated. With the heat and my current level of tiredness, I don't feel TOO bad about that. So we're going to do the boat tomorrow and visit three villages along the southern end of the area. Then we'll take a train and finish up the job on Wednesday.
After my nap, I felt better, and so we decided to get some food. We found a little square that was loaded with outdoor-seating restaurants. Eno got a pasta with seafood in it (a specialty of this region) and I found something
with parmesan sauce and tomato-basil sauce - not too complicated, since I don't want to upset my internal balance any more at the moment. It was really good. Then we walked around a little, since it was still light outside, and found this little group of guys in sailor hats with musical instruments outside the theater. They were playing marching band tunes, so we stayed a minutes and watched. We could hear them from the room earlier, since the theater is only a block away. We took a stroll through the park and down to the marina before making our way back to the room for the evening. Our boat doesn't leave until 9:15 AM tomorrow (it's the first boat), but we both could use the rest.
