Today we got up early and went inside the Pantheon as soon as it opened to have a good look at this amazing building before the crowds arrived.

After that we had breakfast and then caught a taxi to Galleria Borghese for our prebooked visit to the Gallery. We enjoyed our visit but I felt the gallery was fairly overrated compared to other we had seen and there was lots of hassle with security checks and so on. I couldn't even keep by handbag with me, it had to be checked it as well. I was aware of this but it was a nuisance all the same.

After we had finished with the gallery we hired a dual bicycle and rode around the Borghese gardens. This was great fun. There was some sort of marathon going on which made it a little difficult as they kept closing paths and we kept getting lost!

We then returned to the Piazza della Rotunda for lunch at Di Rienzo overlooking the Pantheon. Ate delicious Sole al Limone before a rest and some packing ready for our departure the next day.

Dinner was sensational. We had a reservation at Ad Hoc and were invited to go thirty

minutes early and enjoy a truffle tasting with Prosecco. There were eight different types of truffle spread on lovely soft white bread, served with a glass of bubble. Totally delicious. We then walked down the street to Ad Hoc itself where we were given a perfect private table in the window – great for people watching. We both chose the Roman Degustation menu with matched wines. The food was out of this world, and the only problem was that as I was still struggling slightly with my cold I simply could not eat as much as I would have liked. This restaurant is highly recommended and we will definitely go again if we ever come back to Rome.
