25th May, 2012

After a busy 4 days in Rome, we’re leaving tomorrow and heading south for 3 or 4 days – probably Sorrento – I think about a 1½ or 2 hour train ride. That will be our next challenge – working out the rail system and finding accommodation for the duration

We had a bit of trouble with accessing money on our cash card when we first arrived, so had to use credit card for a few days until I sorted it out – hopefully no more hiccups there!

There are tourists everywhere. They congregate in groups of 40ish following a guide who holds up some sort of identifying “flag” – an umbrella, a flag, pretty ribbon, whatever so that the tourists have a better chance of sticking with their own guide.

• We’ve done a 4 hour guided tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St Peters where Steve managed to loose his group for about 10 or 15 mins.
• We’ve visited the Pantheon.
• We’ve done a bus circuit of Central (historical) Rome.
• We’ve spent about 3 hours on a guided tour of the Colosseum.
• We’ve walked hundreds of miles (well – it seems like it).
• We’ve had some great meals.
• We have spent quite a bit of time with Gail’s friends Cathy & Rod from Queensland – they happened to be in Rome at the same time as us.

And this morning, we found Giuseppe’s shop where he made Pinocchio (he’s still making them and selling them for a fortune!)

I’ve just gotten back from visiting a church that was built in the late 1500s!! Simply amazing! (Gail was all walked out by this arvo).

There’s just so much to see – it’s impossible to in one trip (might have to come back again later )

cover charge!!
ok guys, i have found out that the cover charge is supposed to cover things like BREAD, oil, vinegar, table covers etc. So if anyone ever dares charge you extra for bread that you didn't ask for again, as well as charge a cover charge, firmly refuse to pay!!! oh, and Steve - I'd like to think we are friends of yours too!!! Enjoy Urbania!
