Roman Forum
We arrived in Rome by train. It took us about 4 hours to get there and was very cramped. Once we got off the train we had to take the metro to the bus station and then take a bus to our campsite. We arrived almost perfectly into rush hour and missed the first bus to our campsite because it was so crowded. When we finally got on the bus thankfully we met a few german girls who gave us the heads up when it came to our stop. The bus was so crowded you couldn't see any signs or move for that matter to see where you were so we were thankful they were so nice. We finally got to our campsite and checked into our tent that was set up identical to the tent in Florance except that these tents were placed right next to eachother instead of spaced out like the ones in Florance were. We were so happy to finally be at the campsite and out of the crowds that we grabbed some snacks to make dinner out of at the grocery store across the street and hid out by the picinic tables for the rest of

the evening. Our campsite was awesome. The restaurant was huge, it had a disco bar and 2 pools. The only downside to our campsite was that it was placed right next to the major highway so around 6 am the honking, yelling, and craziness began. Also during the evenings there was a jackhammer and construction work happening right next to us. We didn't sleep much at this campsite.
We spent most of our first day in Rome away from the crowds hanging out by the pool. We met our neighbors (Lindsey and Rose) who happened to be 2 girls from Australia traveling around just like us. We played pool with them at the disco bar and made plans to go to the Colosseum with them the next day.
We got going pretty early the next day and took the shuttle into the city. It was PACKED in the city. The lines to visit the Vatican went from the entrance and wrapped all the way around the outside of the tall rock wall on the outside of the building. We decided not to wait in line and just saw the outside which is really amazing. Statues cover the building along the

wall and large pillars separate it from the rest of the city of Rome. We kept walking and finally reached the Colosseum where Lindsey walked right up to the first tour man she saw and got us in. We are so glad that we did a tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum because there is so much history that we never would have gotten had we just waited in line like all the other tourists that day. There are no words to explain how amazing the tour was and how much we learned. It was the most amazing piece of history either of us have ever seen. We went to the Roman Forum right after we were done with the Colosseum and finished our tour there. It was huge! Much larger ruins than we expected and had great views over the city. That day we also got to see the Spanish Steps, Trivi fountain, and St Peters square. There is just so much to see in Rome, its impossible to fit it all in in 4 days.
The next day all four of us went to the Cattacombs which are underground graveyards where the Christians were forced to

take the bodies of their people outside of the city. We went to the most famous one which was the cattacombs of St Sebastion. The underground tunnels and graves stretch out over 7 miles and the grave of the most famous 'St Sebastion' has a church over the top of it that has a beautiful hand carved wooden ceiling. There were Roman tombs found nearby the Christian cattacombs found completely intact in the area with paintings and pottery that look like they were drawn yesterday. It was a piece of history that was really amazing to see. We went to a real Italian restaurant later that day and had home made Gnocchi and spaghetti as a group. After lunch we split up and Shelly and I went back to Trivi fountain, bought some art work, and also got to see the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, Constantine Arc, and the Castle of St Angelo from the outside. We were very busy in Rome and by the end of it were amazed and tired of people 😊 lindsey and Rose were really fun people to meet and we had a great time exploring the city with them. We are so excited to see
