What is up with the weather? It felt cold and blowy as we walked from the castle at Miramare to the bus stop where we caught the number 6 into the city. Trieste is an important city but one that most visitors seem to by pass. We never have understood why that should be. Trieste is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy situated on the Adriatic which today looked grey. It is almost cheek by jowl with Slovenia its neighbour and to Croatia some 19 miles away. It feels less Italian and more Slavic at times. It is a city that has been influenced by its location at the crossroads of so many cultures , Latin, Slavic and Germanic.
