Our boat arrived in Napoli early this morning. Kamie & I were awake before 6am. We were showered and out the door at 7:30am. We had a private tour of 8 people scheduled for today. We met everyone in the main lobby of the ship and they were all very nice people. We walked off the ship and Tony was standing there - an adorable, short Italian man - with a sign with my name on it and a silver Mercedes van. Nice. We all loaded-up and drove... and drove... and drove. Today we went from Napoli to Sorrento to Positano to the actual town of Amalfi and on to Ravello.... we drove through the entire Amalfi Coast. We had short stops along the way for the breathtaking views and 1-hour stops in Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. We also had a 90-minute lunch with pizza, too much wine, and free frosty lemoncello shots at the end - nice! Our tipsy group then sang "That's Amore" and “Volare” in the van heading back down the coast toward the port. It may have been the wine but I loved it!! Today was more beautiful than the movies and interesting to learn
so many things about this region of the world. My pictures cannot do this area justice.
If anyone is interested, we drove past the balcony from Under The Tuscan Sun - the area where Diane Lane finds her lover with another woman. We also had our pictures taken on the beach where they filmed her eating/drinking with his family. I like that movie so I was thrilled!
We also stopped at an absolutely beautiful hotel where Hillary and Chelsea Clinton have stayed in the not-so-distant past. Rooms start at 296 Euro per night, minimum and increase to over 2,000 Euros per night.
The trees were beautiful and odd today. You will have to look at some of the pictures to see. These trees are all over Italy and are called umbrella pines. Bella!
Several of us bought giant lemons today - they are supposedly sweet inside. We will cut ours open here in a day or two when the thought of food is slightly entertaining again, that is.... which reminds me... I do not get car sick that I am aware of but a couple of others in the van starting feeling a little queasy today. Getting up the hills on winding roads
and then back down the hills on extremely winding roads was beautiful, scary, and apparently...not good for my stomach. Maybe it was the wine, maybe it was the drive, who knows.. but Kamie & I went to dinner tonight around 9:00pm and I came back to the room and was immediately sick. Now every extra vibration in the ship throws my stomach into flipflops. Yuck!
Kamie's contribution for the day: “I like Dean Martin but if I have to hear
That's Amore one more time I'm going to dig up his grave and piss on his bones.”
