We rose early to walk around the top of Sassi and down to the bottom (plus up again). Only the collectors of rubbish were around and the odd person walking their dog. For us, it’s always rewarding to see a town/village with no one about. For nightlife, we prefer people. I began capturing (photographing) doors and steps. After making our way to the car it was onto Martina Franca through farmland and National Parks and our “Trulli” accommodation for 2 nights. Everything is so close in this small region so well within 2 hours we had arrived. I drive slowly … too slow for the Italians. Once again, our accommodation is immaculate. When we arrived in Martina Franca our host told us he would pick us up at the train station. He described himself as “an ugly guy with a bad shave”. He was far from ugly but he did have quite a beard. He was very helpful in getting us oriented to the old city. Dianne had done her homework well and our B&B was located in an excellent position for visiting the old city. We set out on our first walkabout to orient ourselves with the old city. We came to St Francis’s Church where it appeared there was a wedding about to take place. We decided to hang around to see the bride. We are back online so will add to the post when we get organised! Hi all We have spent two lovely days in stone heaven- trulli magic! From Matera we drove to Martina Franca, battled the city traffic, was met by our lovely hosts and escorted to our trullo which was located 6 km from the town boundary. What amazing buildings - heritage listed as it seems us much of Italy! Stone walks, stone floors, stone roof - even the glass could be called crushed stone! Sadly no internet! We stayed two nights, froze our butt off as the heating only worked while the fire was going and it was impossible to keep it going for long enough! Some floor rugs would have been good.
