We think that we are traveling around Europe far to quickly, however what are you to do when you have to see much more. And we pretty much have a idea of the country's we would come return to We really are envious of the grey nomads here in Europe as they have so many country's too see in their caravans and motor homes, than we do in Australia. Even though we have a vast country with many beautiful sights to see. We miss the different cultures and country's that expand all across Europe and beyond. After leaving Hungary we traveled through Slovenia. With its lovely soft country side and old villages and welcoming people. We stayed at a farm and the hospitality was lovely we met different travellers from all over Europe and Russia. Everyone seemed to be passing through but every one agree that they should have spent longer on Slovinia.
The next day we traveled to Lake Como,Italy. The weather had been really hot for weeks and we hadn't seen any rain for ages.the promised storm never arrived but at least we had some rain. The beautiful Lake is always breathtaking beautiful. Certain areas of the lake often obscure
from the palatial villas that hide behind steep walls and sheer drops down to private property's that owns the lake side. Needless to say I didn't see George Clooney. Or anyone else that's famous. But we relaxed and watched the world go by. All the beautiful people. We then traveled down to Portofino just beautiful and spent time at a lovely couples home, Gianmarko was a lovely host and when we arrived as he was baking bread and cakes in the outside oven. Their home was on a cliff edge with a wonderful view, and a garden full of produce and vines. Sunspots had been created so you could sit quietly and admire the views and take shade from the sun. Breakfast was a banquet of fresh breads cheeses and salamis along with cakes and biscuits washed down with coffee latte or the very strong espresso. But you had to go back to bed just to let it all digest. We keep telling or selfs that we have to stop eating all this wonderful food. We are being good and trying little bits of this and that, and then we have to walk at least 20 Klm to feel better

Rakitnik for being so naughty.Onward down to Pisa and then to my beloved Florence. Which the most loveliest city nothing at all seemed to change not even the country side. The Florentines seem to have kept everything lovely and streets are clean. In the country side crops have been harvested the wheat and the grapes along with olives, only corn left to grow to its full cob. Lazy afternoons drinking vino and beer the sound cycads fill the evening and everyone is content but still no thunder storms. When we left Tuscany we drove through the countryside towards Rome we saw the countryside deteriorate and villages and towns empty. Emigrants filling towns and prostitutes along side the road all quite odd. Then we started to see the filth of the city over grown weeds in pavements plastic bottles and rubbish thrown into the country roads and streets we were in shock. I was so sick to my gut,as I wanted Glen to love Rome. I had lived in Rome over 35 years ago, and was excited to show off all the beautiful sights . But I was so saddened to see the beautiful city that was the Eternal City just grubby and

Rakitnik filthy. Once were you could stroll along side the river Tiber was what I could best describe as a sewerage river it was terrible. It just kept on shock after shock. The Vatican of course is magnificent but most of the fountains around Rome were green and had waste in them. Why I asked Glen would you be proud of this city, how could anyone who visits Rome not see this dirty mess "Shame on the Roman people" and shame on the Italians. We visited the Spanish steps were once flowers cascaded down the steps and the window boxes but now nothing not a flower in sight. As young people we would meet and gather for cafe and watch the fashions and people. But none of this happens here these days. The redeeming Trevi fountain which has been getting years of restoration and cleaning looks spectacular please people of Rome look at this masterpiece of Bernini and fall in love again with your beautiful city and take pride once again. We did have a great time in Rome but I choose to remember the Rome as I fell in love with it all those years ago. Pompeii was so good
amazing what happen here, they are still digging relics up. We wandered around the place all day, restoration is quite different now as different technique are applied as to when they first found this place. I think it such What got me baffled is why are 3,000,000 people still living around the base of Vesuvius it's considered the most dangerous volcano in the world. Traveling around the coast of Sardinia and enjoying the coast line and the endless olive groves. Our last stop Brindisi to the ferry over to Albania.
