I cant believe another month has gone by, and way too fast.
And what an amazingly busy and wonderful month its been...
Firstly I went to Pisa!!! That place is incredible. And I can now say I sat and ate a panini infront of the Leaning tower of Pisa 😊 Oh yeah! lifes good! haha
So my host brother moved to a University up the North of Italy and we had an excuse to have a bit of a road trip. We drove through Tuscany and made our way up to La Spezia. That city is soo beautiful. I think its proberly my favourite city so far in Italia, which is really saying something, cause to me every city is so incredible breath-takingly beautiful. Its one of those cities that in my opinion has everything. Its got the harbour, high-fashion shops, and its on a hill and at the top is an simply bellissimo view.
If I had a choice of a place to live in Italia, I would choose La Spezia in a heart-beat.
Other excitement this month,
the STS conference!!!........ In Firenze!!!!!! So I was off to Tuscany again. After a 5hour train ride (as well as
having to wait 2hours for a train that was late) with an Aussie dude, we finally arrived in Florence. It turns out there was like 25 Australians, two other kiwi girls, and then a few Germans and Canadians. So we did a bit of exchange stuff, going over the rules etc, nothing overly exciting. Then we went out to a ristourante for some dinner and afterwards, we went to a discotecha!!!!!!! and it was my first discotecha and it was in Florence, how perfect :D
And it was soooooo much fun, me and the other kiwi girl partyed so hard and never stopped dancing. and it was the coolest club ever, just like you see on TV. It even had karaoke downstairs. We didnt want to leave we had already fallen in love with the place. But unfourtnetly we had to, and so we returned to the hotel. and had a kiss ass night. Us Kiwi girls and the Australia guys just stayed up all night and talked and joked. Because as we realise now after Italy, that Aussies and Kiwis are pretty damn similar and we gotta stick together.
Gotta love those Aussies!
A week ago I was
A little kiwi girl...
With alot of great Italian archietucure let onto the ancient art of Italian eating. And you wouldnt expect a simple task like eating to have so many rules, but you really need to be careful what you eat and how you eat it. Its all about appreciating the flavours. This all came about after I put parmesan on tuna pasta, a big mistake!!
My host parents sat me down and gave me a talk.
Ill give you the main jist of it.
You've got to keep things simple, because you have to be able to taste and appreciate what you are eating.
Its all about balance. Dont mix strong flavours with weak. For example fish and cheese. The cheese is much stronger than fish and therefore it overtakes the flavour.
Its all quite intellegent and now I understand why all the food is simple, like how they eat only ham in their bread, no butter, no sauce, nothing! and they also dont use many if any spices. But of course its delicious!
My first month here as you would of seen from the photos the wheather was absoulete bliss! I was at the beach, having swims etc, and now what a dramatic change. Its about
Pisa
That place is bliss 8°, and everyone is wearing huge coats (bigger than ive ever seen in my life). But boy do you need them in this kind of cold, its different from the New Zealand cold, thats for sure and now im freezing me ass off! And I almost cant believe it, my house here is colder than my one back home. And we all know houses in NZ are pretty damn cold when it comes to winter.
So ive tried to stick the cold out and keep wearing my hoodies like I normally do in Winter but I think that the time is come when I have to invest in one of those big hellishly expensive coats.
Because at the moment I am finding myself very
con gelati - which basically means frozen in english. And speaking of frozen that reminds me of yesterday when I had my first ride on a motorini! It was the coolest thing ever, kind of scary at first but theres nothing better than that crisp Italian air. Needless to say that afterwards my legs were very con gelati. Excellent!
Anyway I must fly, dinners ready and I can smell the heavenly sent of pizza!! Ciao
