Aran Island

Both happy and sad to be returning to normal vacation mode after the excitement of the wedding. sad to say goodbye to the family. we dropped Tom at the train station in Ennis, so. Have lost one of our traveling companions. No one to finish all our food, order crazy menu items or organize the trunk.
it's just me, Dot and Dee left. the happy couple headed off to London.
we left Shannon yesterday morning and spent most of the day driving to our next stop in the Burren, stopping along the way where ever our fancy took us, which of course included sheep dogs...see video.
We arrived at our B&B..it is awesome, plus they do laundry here. we came home today to clean folded clothes, which feels like a luxury when you have been re-wearing clothes for several days. dot and I have a giant room and we each have a double bed....heaven. wifi in our room is a little iffy, unless I sit in the closet. dee has her own room and must be closer to the router, because hers is fine.
dinner last night at the Soda Shoppe. pancakes and ice cream for me. one of those days.
today was our
Aran Island (1)
a Dolman in the Burren big day trip to the smallest of the Aran Islands, Inisheer. posted some pics and videos. we drove to Doolin to catch a boat to the island, which in itself was an adventure. boats and people everywhere, with all the boat companies vying for customers. None run on time.
it was pretty chilly this morning, so we layered up. we rented bikes as soon as we got to the island. it is a small island and easy to bike around. Great scenery, which you can see in the video and pics. we even got off road on a cow path, so it felt like we were really biking. Lunch at a tiny cafe. I decided to finally try the hamburger...big mistake. Weird, mushy, crazy sauce, tasted a lot like meatloaf, which I don't like. Had to move on to ice cream to drown my disappointment.
ferry ride back was another crazy ordeal, people everywhere. then they tell us the tide is out in Doolin where we need to dock, so we need to hang out for a while. don't they know this in the morning when they sell you the tickets? but on the way back, this cute dolphin followed us for
Aran Island (2)
at the shipwreck on Inisheer, one of the Aran Islands quite awhile and hung out entertaining us.
UPon docking, we returned to the town of Doolin for snacks and some Great shopping (sorry Gary and Kevin).
dinner at the pub in Ballyvaughan tonight. Neat little place. I ordered roast beef of the day. it came looking like it was overdone, dry and tough, but it was in reality, incredibly tender and flavorful. Mashed potatoes were perfect. they like to serve two kinds of potatoes with your meal here. Had both Mashed and boiled. Dee ordered dessert: Baileys and brown bread ice cream. Only in Ireland.
