Day 22 – Dunchin I thought we were heading to Dingle today but looking at our accommodation a little closer we were going through Dingle to Dunchin. Little did we know that this is the most western point of Ireland. Also a little off the beaten track. The roads were barely wide enough to fit two cars through side by side. We were physically breathing in every time we passed something thinking it would somehow make the car skinnier. Still got both wing mirrors though. Hoorah! The scenery here is completely different to what I’ve seen of Ireland so far. It’s mountainous with winding roads and the ocean stretching out everywhere. We found this cool little stream that leads to the ocean and all the rocks/boulders surrounding it were different shades of purple. The ... read more

Hi everyone, Since I last posted here we have been petty busy with our sight seeing around Dingle and Ballyferriter. There is so much to do and see in our immediate neighbourhood, and we haven't been to all of the ancient forts and beaches either. Today we went on a ferry to the Blasket Islands. This is a group of islands 15 minutes by boat from the mainland of Kerry, The largest island was where people lived up until the 1950s when they agreed to abandon the settlement on the island. There have been a number of good books written about the community that lived on the Blasket Islands, one being The Islandman, and another being Peig Sayer's autobiography. The main island is mostly uninhabited now, although we did see one woman living in a small ... read more

Hi, everyone, well at last the weather has turned and we have one day without rain. it's been sunny enough to get down to the beach, still windy, but blue skies above the surrounding mountains. Thanks for all your comments on the previous blogs. it's nice to know that you are appreciating the photos- Alison is the photographer extraordinaire. The past week, Lucinda has been attending the Splash Club in Dingle. it's a water safety club that takes the kids kayaking, swimming in wet suits, being towed into Dingle harbour in canoes etc. Lucinda has had a great time, and made a good friend. We also visited a working farm in Tralee. The farm has replica buildings of Ireland in the 1920s and old ways of cooking and farming as well. Ruby and I had a ... read more

Hi, everyone, Here are some photos of a recent excursion to Tralee, home of The Rose of Tralee. A city of narrow one way streets, a great museum with its medieval section and beautiful Botanical gardens. Outside of Tralee is Ardfert a small town with an ancient Cathedral, some parts dating back to 12th century. We also checked out the ruins of the Friary and a medieval conical tower, one of only a few that are left intact in the country. The Beehive Huts where the horses and foals were also date back to 4000 years. It was amazing seeing the horses and their foals. They were not troubled about us at all. It was like a paradise watching them frolic and nuzzle each other at such close quarters. As you can see the girls love ... read more

Dear all, Well, greetings from Ballyferriter in County Kerry in Ireland. The weather here is cool and overcast, about 15. Right now the cloud is descending outside my window, so low I can almost touch it. It has taken us a few days to get settled and finding out where things are, but now we are beginning routines, getting the girls to do some school work, outings in the afternoon, some writing and reading at night. Over the next few weeks I will post a range of photos from the holiday. Here are a few from ireland.... read more
