Gino's Gelato
Irish Candy bar and Nutella. YUM! The sun rises at 5:30am and that is about the time I woke up for internship day 1. It started out like a typical first day of work and soon turned into a scene from a comedy movie. Like most people, Caitlyn and I woke up early to leave extra early in case of small mishaps. Key word: small. Everything was smooth sailing as we got off bus #1 and to our stop for bus #2. Caitlyn and I are waiting by the curb like every other commuter when our bus comes around the corner and drove right past us. We look at each other, scream a little, and sprint after it (arms slightly flaling). There was a lot of "What the !" and "Classic Caitlyn and Sav day 1!" We walked one block over to a street full of bus stops where 5 for 5 were not on our route to work. Laughing and internally crying, we eventually walked all the way back to the original bus stop and boarded the next bus 25 minutes later than originally planned. With wifi on bus #2, we looked up the route of this bus and where we needed to get off. The
bus didn't have a voice over the intercom telling us which stop was which nor did it have screens or any indication for that matter. Unlike USA transportation, if no one is at a stop, the bus won't stop. Therefore, counting down the stops to our destination was pointless. Caitlyn and I exited bus #2 to what we thought was the right stop; we thought wrong. A couple blocks over was a gas station with the nicest people who helped us find directions to work. Off we went to bus #3. We got on and said little prayers that we would make it to work on time. Thankfully, this bus driver understood English and our American accents and after making a few calls, dropped us off in the correct city! We thought,
Yay! We are almost there! WRONG ONCE AGAIN. By this time we were supposed to be at work already. We wandered to the entrance of what appeared to be a gated area of large corporations. After following a road that seemed to never end, we had to go into three different buildings before a receptionist googled walking directions to our work. THREE HOURS LATER... we made it to
Henry Street
One way to my heart is through music. work (only one hour late to work)! Our boss was so kind and said it happens on almost everyone's first day. She also threw in a comment about how we were the first to be that late... chill.
This summer I am working at PALS Playschool as a Teacher's Assistant. PALS stands for Play and Language school. This is an early intervention school for children with autism ages 3-6 which focuses on behavioral, play and speech therapy. We immediately got about a half hour of training, and were placed in our assigned classrooms. It was crazy how much energy the children have! I did a lot of observing and note taking. I loved how structured the programs were! It was wonderful to see how everything the children learned in their individual and group sessions was also implemented during play time and almost every situation throughout the day. Although there are only six children in my class, I was worn out by the end of the day.
After work, one of my co-workers took Caitlyn and I around the city center. We went to Henry street where a lot of street artists and musicians were, then walked over the
UCD
We couldn't believe how bright it was outside! This photo was taken around 10 o'clock at night. Liffey Bridge to Trinity College Dublin to get our bus passes. This is the rivalry college to UCD so automatically I have to be a bit biased towards the university at which I live at. I definitely want to go back to Trinity and take a tour though! We spent a lot of time on Grafton Street where there were many shops, more musicians, and the famous Gino's! Gino's is a gelato place which was extremely delicious. After one sample, Caitlyn quickly ordered the Nutella gelato. I sampled probably about 8 flavors and then decided on a candy bar gelato in a waffle cone. It was worth every single euro! We enjoyed our gelato in a nearby inside shopping center, picked up some stuff from Euro giant, and headed home. Our other two roommates were there pondering over how to cook a frozen pizza in our oven less kitchen. We ended up half cooking it on a pan on the stove and half cooking it in the microwave. Wasn't too shabby if I say so myself! Since the sun doesn't set until almost 11pm, Emily, Cheyenne, and I set up my hammock and sat outside for a few hours. Tim was walking around and came to join us for a bit as well!
I had an eventful morning with the Dublin buses and a relaxing evening with friends! At least I know the work commute can only go up from here!
