June 19 Dublin

Today I just kind of wrapped things up for this trip and did some last minute shopping and walked around the city a bit. I walked around St Stephens Green a bit and then took the bus to Merrion Square. Merrion Square is a very thickly vegetated park with landscaped trees and shrubs , different from St Stephens Green which is pretty much open space with lots of flowers and ponds. After visiting Merrion Square I took the bus back to near St Stephens Green again and walked over to St Stephens Green Shopping Center which would be a good place to visit if it was raining while waiting for the rain to stop. I then took a meandering route to Temple Bar where I took another look at it.

There was a very long line of people that snaked down one side of the side street by the Temple Bar and then across the street and then back up the other side. I found out it was people who were auditioning for a part as an extra on a movie called “The Vikings” that was going to be filmed.

I then relaxed a bit in the open space with steps a bit east of Temple Bar. It is a good place to rest up a bit and people watch with various buskers playing.

I had bought a suitcase with wheels and went back to the hostel and took the stuff out of my backpack and repacked it into the suitcase. I still wasn’t sure if I would go back to Texas or just toss the second half of my ticket and stay in Ireland a few more weeks but in any case I wasn’t going to haul that heavy backpack around but was going to roll my stuff in a suitcase with wheels.

After repacking my stuff into a suitcase I stuffed the backpack into the nearest trash can and I went back out to lower McConnell street and sat on the steps of the O’Connell statue just North of the O’Connell Bridge and just enjoyed the evening sunset till it started getting dark.

June 20 – I didn’t know for sure till I woke up at 0400 if I would return to Texas or head south to Cork. In either case I left on the Airbus on Westmoreland Street. One Airbus was going to the Airport and another going to Cahir and Cork. In that second I woke up I thought “ ……guess I may as well head home for now” and come back in a few weeks.

So that’s the plan.
