Alyssa Goes Green
Alyssa turns into a Leprechaun at the souvenir store. Wednesday, July 1st - Dublin
Dublin itself is a one day town, especially when compared to the other great cities of Europe. It’s really more of a business or party town in my opinion. The drunks we often heard at 3:00am in the morning would agree with me. The beauty of Ireland definitely lies in the countryside. Still, this was a great place to complete our trip and wind down before heading to the airport. And so on our last day of this great trip we visited the Book of Kells and the National Museum of Archeology.
The Book of Kells
The Book of Kells is a bit of a letdown when you finally see it. Ireland’s most ancient book is stuffed in the back of the exhibit and only 4 pages are viewable at any one time. People tend to crowd around the glass hogging the limited view. One guy stood there gazing at the book so long the security guards finally had to shoo him away to the relief of the other tourists. Despite all this you have to see the Book of Kells at least once in your life. The artwork on each page is
Erin's Pretty Hair
Erin goes "full Irish" with green hair. incredible. After that, I recommend buying the digital version of the book on DVD.
The National Museum on the other hand, is totally worth the visit over and over. Artifacts from all of Ireland’s history are displayed here from early stone age to medieval times. The remains of mummified bog people are even on display for those who are very curious or have a strong stomach. Despite their weathered appearance, you can still make out facial features, hair, nails even tattoos. The best part about the museum is that it is free!
Souvenir Shops
The girls spent their last Euros visiting several souvenir shops. Dublin has it’s fair share of cheesy souvenirs. You can buy everything from hats to key chains to chocolate and have it all come in green or some other Irish motif. Alyssa and Erin had fun trying on clothes and costumes in the shops. Far and away my favorite t-shirt had to be the one that said, “The Leprechauns made me do it.”
As we wrapped up this monumental 25 day journey, it suddenly became very difficult to sum it all up in single thought. Did we have a good time? What
Tiffany Calls Home
Tiffany calls her friend Laura to wish her a happy birthday from Ireland. was our favorite part ? The travel itch has been scratched at least for awhile. I am sure to be on the road again sometime in the future, but for now I am happy that my goals have been met.
Rather than bore you with the remaining details of getting on the airplane and slogging home through security and airports, I thought it would be fun to quote a few lines from other famous travelers. Please feel free to share your quotes in the blog!

“There is no place like home.” - Dorothy from the movie, Wizard of Oz.
“Travel is glamorous only in retrospect.” - Paul Theroux. I have to agree with this one. The heat wave and sunburn from France, the car accidents, the expensive restaurants are already beginning to fade.
“I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” - Mark Twain. I am still married after this trip. I plead the 5th amendment after that.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. See you next trip !!
