After our first few days on getting to know the area, and having class in the morning time(our only time of class on the entire trip) the professor planned a group trip to the Dingle Peninsula, led by the infamous Michael kissane (MAD MIKE!!!) I can not get over this guy.. he is absolutely terrible, and perverted.haha but it was funny. we nick named him MAD MIKE. So we started out in the bus going out of Tralee, towards the Dingle Peninsula. We stopped at a fabulous view of the Irish quilt(as people would say) In my opinion, this picture describes ireland exactly how i imagined it. Green/patchwork quilt. It was very windy and kind of cold out. I should have more than just my pink hoodie, ill let u know that. We then stopped at ... read more

So Doolin was pretty much awesome. It's not really a town or a village - there's no convenience store or gas station or even a hotel. It's a road (just barely wide enough for two lanes) that goes from the Doolin pier and connects an Upper Village and a Lower Village. It's about a mile between the two villages, and there's nothing in that mile except for B&Bs, farmhouses, and my hostel. It's something like a national shrine to trad. Everywhere I've been, people talk about the 'legendary' McDermott's and McGann's, which are the two pubs in the Upper Village. I don't know how long they've existed, but it must have been awhile - McGann's is covered in black and white photographs of old trad sessions. And it really was amazing - it was the first ... read more

On Monday nights theres a bar called McDermotts that ha a group of 4 young guys from Ennis that come down and play some traditional Irish music so that was a great time. The music which nauseated me during St. patricks day at outback was a lot of fun in its proper setting. I had some guiness, smithwicks and a delicious bowl of real Irish Stew. I met 2 more Americans who were real laid back and had a good time hanging out with them for the night. This morning I woke up at 7:45am and rented (or hired) a bike for the day for €10 and rode up to the Cliffs of Moher. It took about 45 minutes and it was exhausting and I realized any incline over 0.0004 degrees may as well be a ... read more

Well its been a couple days but i've decided to go onward and forward with my flight to Dubrovnik, i found a bunch other numbers to call for lodging. Let's see whats happened since my last entry... Well I got Fish and Chips again since its cheap, fills you up and is relatively good and found Ken chilling in the common room which he usually does and asked him if he wanted to go check out the Comedy Store, which he did. We went over around 6 but doors didnt open until 630 so we went to a small pub and I tried a beer called London Pride which was pretty good and Hoegaarden or Boegaarden, something Belgian and it was a white ale. I didnt like it too much, seemed like something thats an acquired ... read more

Today was alright. It started off good. We got up, had breakfast, got all packed and walked to the train station in Dublin. It was a little bit far, but the packs worked well. We walked along the river, which wasn't that impressive, but I liked how each bridge was different. We got to the station at the perfect time, and got our Eurail pass verified. The train ride was nice. Read some, ate lunch and saw a lot of pretty landscape. It was much more like how I thought Ireland would look. We arrived in Galway at 2:15pm only to find out that the bus for Doolin didn't leave until 6pm!! I was definitely not happy. We sat in a cafe for most of the time, walked around the town (I was freezing and very ... read more

Working our way up the west coast, we managed to find the Cliffs of Mohr (cue Monty Python music). These natural cliffs are like 300 meters high, the wind was whipping off the Atlantic and blowing waves and spray way up them... There are BIG warning signs to not go near the edge, but that didn't stop us... nothing could deter us from getting the shoe in position for a great shot...... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Clare » The Burren October 7th 2001

After an early 7:30am breakfast, our bus departed an hour later for the CLIFFS OF MOHER. They rise 668 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. On a clear day you can see across to the ARAN ISLANDS but we had a cloudy day with a little bit o' rain. There is a castle like structure built in 1835, at the top called O'BRIEN'S TOWER. We were lucky enough to see a rainbow in the distance of the Aran Islands, which we could see a little bit. My 1st Irish rainbow! We walked around and bought some postcards at the visitor center. It was crowded here but very majestic. Our bus then took us up the CLAIRE COAST and also taking in the BURREN. We stopped for pictures at CORKSCREW HILL which is exactly what it is named. ... read more
