This was a long drive, but a beautiful one. We passed a lot of beautiful waterfalls and got out of the car on a couple of them. I had a lot of fun driving with Daddy. We listened to music, I played on my nintendo and ipod, and also watched a movie. Daddy also had me do homework which had a lot of math and reading. I had to get ready for second grade which was going to start in less than 1 week!
It was really foggy for part of the drive, so while we had to drive slow, it looked really cool.
We arrived in Hofn, and got our room at the hostel.
Looking Cool
Vatnajökull Glacier Daddy was amazed how nice the hostels were in Iceland and so glad that we stayed in them. I even had my own hostelling card. We didn't stay long, because the small town of Hofn had pools and waterslides. This was my favorite one as they had a very fast waterslide that most of the time was in the dark. It did not matter that I was wearing a "trash bag" bathing suit. I had so much fun there. It was incredible how many times we went swimming in Iceland outside.
After showering at the pools we went right next door to a great restaurant known for its lobster. Hofn was known for its lobsters. Even though they were very small, it was awesome as daddy and I shared a lobster dinner. Of course I had a yummy dessert too.
The next day was a day that daddy said was going to be very cool (not that the other ones were'nt). Our first stop was only about 1 hour away. We drove to a place on ring road where we waited with others for these HUGE Jeeps to take us up the mountain to Vatnajökull
Sail Away
Skaftafell Glacier, the largest glacier in Iceland and one of the largest in Europe. The jeep was very high off the ground. We had about a 1 hour windy road to the glacier. It was a lot of fun.
When we got there, we put on some cool clothes and helmet. I was very excited as I had never been on a snowmobile and either had daddy. There was a big group, but I was the youngest. It was SOOOOO much fun. I loved it and only wished we could have gone faster. During our stops, I had fun playing in the snow and having a snowball fight with one of the tour guides. He was funny.
The next stop was Jökulsárlón Lagoon. This was a very cool lagoon with lots of icebergs. While we saw a lot of icebergs in Greenland, this was still very cool. We had fun taking pictures by them and even saw 1 seal. We then took a boat ride. It was actually a car boat as it could drive on land and then sailed around the lagoon. We had a lot of fun and I loved the very blue icebergs.
However, even better than the lagoon, was the beach. There were all these little icebergs or big icecubes. Now I really knew why they called it Iceland, who would of thought there could be giant icecubes on a beach. I had so much fun "drawing" with sand on the ice. So much fun that I did not realize I was sitting on ice while drawing. We spent well over an hour there and I could have spent a couple more. It was such a cool place. I told daddy I would come back when I have kids.
The final stop of the day was at Skaftafell National Park. We hiked to the Skaftafell waterfall. Daddy was proud of me as I walked more then 2/3 of the way, but definitely enjoyed my time on his shoulders. We played, laughed and sang most of the way there.
When we arrived, the waterfall was really cool looking with these very straght rectangular rocks. I had a lot of fun making boats out of leaves. We stayed there for about an hour and then hiked back. A snack for the car at the campgrounds (I told daddy
I wished we could have camped there) and then we drove to Vik.
What an awesome day and one of my favorites on the trip!
