Another morning in Europe. Went down to have breakfast right before we left for the parliament building. We can see the parliament building from our hotel so it was a very short trip. We are able to get the first tour of the morning. We didn't use our local tour guide but instead used a tour guide from the actual parliament building. He was very good-looking and even had a scar going down the side of his left eye. Reminds me of the romance novels heroes I used to read as a kid. The building was pretty impressive. The grand staircase was really spectacular. We were allowed to take photographs throughout the whole building except for where the crown is located. Just as we were about to leave the crown area, we were able to witness the arrival of the guards that stand watch for one hour at a time. It's a beautiful building and the second largest parliament building after London's.
Then we were on our way to the countryside to the town of Szentendre. Just on the outskirts of Budapest we passed Roman ruins of Aquincum. Aquincum was an ancient
city, situated on the northeastern borders of the Pannonia province within the Roman Empire. We arrived in Szintendre about 10:30 am. We visited it's quaint cobble stone street old village. Mostly souvenir shops selling the assorted magnets, post cards, and various Hungarian textiles and ceramics. We headed for Restaurant Rab Raba. We went to the basement area where we were treated to a cooking lesson on how to make Hungarian Goulash Soup. We watched the cook dump the ingredients into a pot then we were given a packaged apron that has the recipe printed on it. We then went back up to the first floor to eat Hungarian Goulash Soup. It was very good and I had 2 bowls full. The dessert was a small square cake which was also good. It was 12:30 when we finished. We were given an hour and a half on our own. I began to make my way back to the bus which requires going back through the market area of shops. Besides the usual postcard and magnet, I found the sweet treat Scott had mentioned yesterday. It's a tall hollow bread tube that is flavored or covered in nuts. I got the cinnamon
version. It's very sweet with lots of sugar sprinkles. I couldn't eat all of it, so I tossed it. We left at 2 pm and within 10 minutes I was out cold and only woke up when they were clapping for the local tour guide since she was no longer going to be with us for the day. We have a dinner at 7 o'clock, so we have four hours to do what we want. Some said they were going to go back into the town and explore but I wanted to just stay in my room and rest up and work on my computer stuff. Mom and dad even called to see how I've been doing.
After spending time blogging and taking a shower to wash off all the sweat and dirt from today's tours, I headed out to eat with the group. We ate at Bagolyvar near Heroes Square. We had a choice so I got the Vegetable strudel with paprika sauce, mashed potatoes vegetables and small side salad. This was followed by a desert of vanilla pancakes with fresh fruits. It was all very good. We then headed back to the hotel. Tomorrow we
go to Serbia.
