The cost of flying from St. Petersburg to Belgrade was rather high and instead of going direct I chose to fly via Budapest and see its sights. I bought the tickets only one month before departure from Wizz Air, and I had done some careful planning and research of possible bus routes, connections, train schedules, the surrounding countries, and finally decided to visit Budapest, Novi Sad, Zagreb, and Ljubljana. I also had to obtain a Schengen visa.
I flew from Moscow to Budapest early in the morning. I came to Moscow from St. Petersburg at 3.40 on the morning of July 8
th and stayed at Kursky Train Station until the metro opened. The flight departure was one hour late.
Arrived in Budapest, I bought a bus ticket to Kobanya-Kispest metro station which is its terminus and from where I took the metro’s blue line to the center. I’m not quite sure but I probably had two buy TWO tickets. The metro ride took about 25 minutes. I checked in at All Central Hostel in the very heart of the city near Deak Ferenc Ter metro station. It was a wonder that I found the hostel at once without rambling
on any erroneous streets. I left my luggage in the room and immediately went outdoors for a sightseeing dose.
It was above +30 degrees and points of free water distribution were arranged. First I went to Keleti Train Station by metro to collect my train tickets from Budapest to Novi Sad on 9
th July and from Zagreb to Budapest on 14
th July. I bought them in advance via the Hungarian Railways website.
I chose to start sightseeing with the Hill City. Since much time has passed since my visit, I do not want to elaborate much on the traveller’s worth of this city, it’s 100%! (MISSING)I even cannot name the most impressive sight of it, because everything there was to my liking. The most impressive, perhaps, is the view on the Parliament Building.
After I descended to the embankment a thunderstorm started, with strong wind gusts and dust clouds whirling in the air, thankfully I was right near the metro station; I got wet while running from Deak Ferenc Ter to my hostel. In the evening I decided to have a short walk, went to the embankment, saw the Academy and Square of heroes.
The next
events on this journey were 2 days in Novi Sad and the Exit Festival, a three-hour stay in my favourite Beograd, and a three-day stay in Zagreb with two visits, to Ljubljana and Varazdin.
On the 14
th of July I arrived from Zagreb to Budapest Deli Station at 16-00 and immediately went to the Parliament building area. I had some time before my return flight. The views along the embankment and around the Parliament were quite exquisite as this building is unrivalled. I also explored the Jewish Quarter and even didn’t want to leave so soon. I also decided that I’d take more photos of people, but without their awareness.
In the airport I tried to find an electric outlet in order to charge my laptop and do some work. There was free wifi with many outlets at the seats. The departure was delayed for one hour.
