Matthias Church in Buda Another sleep in this morning, there is an optional tour of the Hungarian parliament building which we decided to miss. Nice breakfast then we start our city tour at 1000.
We are on the coach and up to the castle area in Buda. Up and up, glad this part wasn't a walking tour. It is about 31c already. Bus parked and off we go. Do the Fishermans Bastion then into the Matthias Church at the top of the hill (ABC - another bloody church). A bit of free time to look down on the rest of the city (Pest) and the Danube river. Great views.
Back on the bus, down the hill through some really nice gardens and streets then onto the Market Halls. They say these are the best covered markets in the world, but Queen Vic market gives it a run for its money I reckon...... Chris looks at a nice table cloth but when we get the price and feel how heavy it is, deal is off. Next we drive along their main avenue towards the Hero Square. The avenue is Andrejia avenue and is called the Paris of Budapest. Very impressive shops along here, wide

St Stephen's statue at Matthias Church with trees lining the street and a carriage way alongside the road, very flash. Get to Hero Square and get some snaps, get an explanation of how and why it was built. Very impressive area.
Back to the hotel where we now have free time for the rest of the day. Some are going to the optional dinner, not us. We go back to the room and freshen up then go to the parliament building to do a tour. On the way there is a modern sculpture in the gardens outside our hotel. It is a concrete head and hand coming out of the ground, the head has grass as its hair and actually looks like Jeff Kennet.
Catch the tram and decide to go to the end of the line to see what is there. Hmm, 1 stop after parliament we are at the end - fail... Any hoo, back to parliament to get tickets. Asks our nationality and then say that there are no more English tours that day, we could get on a French speaking tour at 1630, nearly 2 hours away - no thanks.
Decide to visit the basilica of St Stephen (ABC).

Raven that stole some dudes wedding ring Nice church, then sit down at a cafe outside for a refreshing drink. Walk on to the shopping street (Vaci) and walk to the end checking out a few shops, then back towards the hotel. Go into the bar for another beer and find the Barossa couple. Join them and have a very cold beer in a beautifully shaped glass. They are going to the optional dinner but are a bit sceptical about it now. Have a good chat with them, they are good to have around. The city map we were given had lots of restaurants advertising in it. One had a really nice pic of an eye fillet, so guess where we are off to
for dinner tonight, yep a good steak is the order of the day.
Shower and change then off for a short walk to the restaurant. Very flash place, not too sure if they liked sandals, shorts and t shirt but we got in. Nice waiter who had been to Melbourne with his friend so was able to talk about the places he had been in Australia. Food was really nice, steak perfect and a very nice local Hungarian wine. All in all a great

Parliament building on the Danube River night out, a little expensive but if we did the optional dinner it was also expensive so we balance it out fairly well.
