Now when you hear about guys going away on a jolly this was one of the best Jollies of them all.
The Aberdeen guys left The Granite City at 02:15 to get to Edinburgh to meet the Linlithgow Boys for our 06 15 flight to London Gatwick. At Gatwick we met up with Scalesy who was working in London the day before and GP who flew in from his home in Jersey.
The flight departed from Gatwick to Budapest at 09:30 and arrived in the Hungarian capital of Budapest around lunchtime where we were met by Eric our friend from Paris and our Tour guide for the trip.
We were then transported from the airport to our hotel right in the heart of Budapest where we quickly showered and changed and thereafter met in the outside bar of the hotel to discuss tactics.
Each guy on the trip was handed a personalised T-Shirt that they were asked to wear for our first night out in Budapest. To be fair some of the T-Shirts were a tad offensive with a cracking picture of their good self on the front with an outrages slogan written on too!
All of
Pels
At the Airport the guys took this in the spirit intended. From there we headed out on our first venture of Budapest.
As you will all know the four nights we were away coincided with the four Quarter Finals of Euro 2008. Friday apart we sat down and had a meal while watching the excellent football.
Friday was what can only be desribed as an incredible day out. We hired a bus to take us from our hotel in the centre of Budapest which transported us to Vienna to soak up the atmosphere of the Croatia v Turkey match in Euro 2008.We stopped off at a huge supermarket to stock up on a few refreshments which were almost disappeared by the time we arrived in the Austrian Capitol some three hours later! It's amazing how £155 of liquid can quickly disappear!
For much of the day we wandered the busy streets of Vienna where we met up with thousands of Croation supporters who brought colour, beauty and a lot of noise to the city! Some of the guys dressed in full football strips that went down really well with the locals.
Four of us managed to get tickets for this game, only
Shermy
At Airport three made it in the end,one of the group fell asleep in a public park after what he claims was a bad pint! The rest of the guys watched the match in one of the very large fan zones within the City Centre.
After an amazing day out in very warm sunshine we all met up at nearer 1 am to get our Bus back to Budapest which seemed rather long especially after being on our feet for much of the day.We arrived back after 4 am and we all headed to bed.
Saturday morning didn't start for most of us after our very late night so we met up at noon in the Hotel reception where we were met by our tour guide who directed us to the River Danube via a short tram ride through Budapest City Centre. Our afternoon out was a very pleasant two hour booze cruise down the world famous Danude River. We were given free beer and local shots (which tasted like petrol!) as part of the price and a very good buffet. We headed down the river where we saw some spectacular sights along the way including the House of Parliament and some
stunning buildings and bridges. This was an excellent afternoon out as the weather was extremely hot and all the boys enjoyed relaxing especially after the long day out to Vienna.
Saturday night was a themed night with all the boys joining in and dressing up as Golfers.Have a look at the pictures, they are fantastic. After another great meal we headed out and visited various bustling bars where the locals loved all our gear we had on. We partied into the night and after a good nights sleep we met up for breakfast at 10am on Sunday.
After Sunday breakfast some of us went on an open top bus for a couple of hours to view this beautiful city by road, thereafter most of the guys were ferried to the Grand Prix track where it was 37degrees. We had a great time flying round the race track at a silly rate of knots and our French friend Eric was the overall winner. He triumphed in front of Drylie and Cammy. As ever there was a podium and champagne. The only downside was there slightly less people watching! After doing this car racing we were finding the heat quite uncomfortable so we decided to go
to the open air baths which were absoulutely fantastic. With the searing heat these baths were amazing.A huge complex of pools, whirlpools etc and loads of locals.
Sunday night was another themed night, this time Hawaiian Shirts for everyone apart from one who was given an outfit by the rest of the group.I am sure once you see the pictures you will see who it is and also have a laugh as to the outfit that he was asked to wear! We were booked into TGI Fridays right in front of a massive screen where we watch Spain v Italy while we had some food and many many beers! After this we wandered to a few more bars where we ended up at Karaoke bar for the end of the evening which was a roaring success.
Most of us who managed to surface went out for a Subway breakfast on Monday which was excellent and after Sunday nights drink consumption it was very much needed. We were picked up at 2pm and transported back to the Airport where we all headed back to London apart from Eric who was going direct to Paris. After a short break in London we flew
onto Edinburgh where we said our farewells. The Linlithgow guys headed east while the Deen guys travelled north for a long two hour journey.
All in all this was another great trip and as you will see from the pictures everyone contributed to make this a wonderful few days away...........................Till the next one!!
