There werent any poodle skirts and bobby socks, leather jackets and hair gel and definitley no hot young Danny Zuco, but there was plenty of parties, music, dancing and good times had when Cherida and I hit up Greece and the Greek Isles.
We stayed in the Pink Palace on Corfu after a gruelling ferry trip from Bari, Italy. (i have recently seen pictures of luxury ferries travelling the same waters, and believe me, ours was not one of these!) Anyway in Pink Palace tradition we had our welcome speech, shot of pink ouzo and were shown to our gorgeous rooms which were thank zeus air conditioned. With many extra curricular activities to fill our time (a booze cruise, magic show, greek dancing, plate smashing, copious amount of jagermeister and ouzo, nice beach and glorious sunsets our 5 nights at the palace passed in a heady blur of feeling totally like we were on holidays.
Athens barely rates a mentio other than to say dont stay here for three nights!!! And i think i nearly died from one of the worst fevers in the world. Good metro tho!
So on to Santorini, another ferry and the greek isles
Great shot Chez!
bliss right? hmm well we had a great time, but the beach wasnt what i first expected when imagining the greek isles. It is however a beautiful island, made so by the stark contrasts of volcanic rock, then red beach then black sand, those postcard white and blue houses, sunsets that make you feel like your witnessing the beginning (or end) of the world.
This was to be our last country together and we had a great night out and spent lazy mornings by the pool. I was definitley ready to stop travelling, exhausted both physically and mentally and most probably not a very pleasant person to be around. Reflecting now, I appreciate what I have seen, what I have done, what I have experienced and I want to hold on to it and look at my pictures over and over and remember the smells and the sounds and the people. I feel overwhelmed by the sheer size of the world and the lessons to be learned, challenges overcome, pleasures revelled in and wonders to behold. I wanna see more, do more, think more, know more and realise that this is the pure joy of travelling.
