And after the northern Greece, we continued south, towards Volos, where we took a ferry boat, and after two hours of a very nice and relaxing boat ride, we reached Skiathos. At first we thought we'll find the accommodation easily, after all, everyone was talking about a slow season, economic problems, and similar, so we didn't make any reservations. Big mistake! It was almost the beginning of August, and it seemed like everyone was on this island: lots of tourists from Britain, France, and even lots of Greek families, and especially young people, since, what we learned later, there's a lot of good places to party (clubs, beaches, etc.). So, we started walking and driving around the Skiathos town, and we founds lots of signs for renting apartments, however, we just couldn't find one that's available. People we met spoke very little English, but one of them managed to tell us "Have you heard of the Internet? That's how you find apartment, in May, not August!" Well, what can I say, he was right, and we did laugh and feel stupid at the same time. Eventually, we found a really great apartment on a hill, a bit further from town, but with a beautiful view of the harbour.
During those eight days, we went to check-out two near-by islands, Skopelos and Alonnisos, which are less populated, but with lost of tourists going to see where the movie "Mamma Mia" was filmed. And because of that movie, you can hear Mamma Mia soundtrack in almost every restaurant or boat, and I really like those songs, but listening to Pierce Brosnan trying to sing over and over again, I came to conclusion that he should never sing in public again! Overall, the islands are beautiful, especially Skiathos has many many wonderful beaches, which we explored and enjoyed greatly! The pictures tell the rest ....
On our way back to Novi Sad, we drove to Meteora, which is a geological wonder, large rock formations, like very narrow hills, or pillars, and on top of each one, there is a monastery. Quite spectacular! We also stopped in one camp and spent the night there, and to sum up the whole experience: this was my first and last camping! It's a long story, so I'll tell you another time ... 😊
