We’ve flown to Greece to spend a few days sailing with our friends from Melbourne who live on a yacht here. They have spent most of this summer in Turkey but we join them just as they start their sail back across the Aegean to Greece. We fly into Kos and meet them there. We have some good days sailing, first north to Leros and then a long day sail across to Amorgos. Although we originally planned to sail further, either to Naxos or Paros, but the weather forecast isn’t great so we decide to sail north from Amorgos anchor for the night and then sail back to Amorgos from where there is a regular ferry we can take to Pireaus. Amorgos isn’t one of the better known Cyclades islands but is a lovely spot. The ... read more

A long Eid break and I was certainly not going to spend a single day in hot Kuwait. I packed my bags and planned a trip to two places in Turkey and 2 places in Greece which became a delightful three. Here is a story of my Mediterranean summer trip. The pre booked taxi was late and it was my good fortune because I hailed a taxi at half the cost! I took Pegasus flight to Istanbul. I got out and took a visa on arrival; an air-conditioned Havas bus to Taksim and voila! I was in the trendy European side of Istanbul. The free walking tour started at Hippodrome, covering Hagia Sofia (church turned mosque turned museum), an Egyptian oblique transported by Constantine from Egypt, a fountain donated by German king, Topkapi Sarayi (the palace ... read more

Sun, turquoise blue sea, scenic vistas, luscious food, nice people, ruins, hiking trails, and a laid back atmosphere - what's not to like in the Greek Islands. During the past two weeks we revisited some of our favorite islands in the Cyclades. The photos speak for themselves. We flew to Krakow on Friday and arrived in the little alpine town of Zakopane in the Tatra National Forest yesterday afternoon. Hope the rain stops SOON!... read more

We were lucky enough to be invited to a family wedding in Mykonos in June with my daughter and two nieces getting the esteemed role of bridesmaid. 7 of us flew out with EasyJet at 7.30 on a Friday from Luton, which felt painful being up at two but in reality meant we were arrived and unpacked by 2 pm, ready to enjoy the rest of the day. My husband, 21 year old daughter and I stayed in a one bedroom apartment at Secret Spot Mykonos, about a minutes walk from where my brother and sister in law were staying at Mykonos Secret Spot! Owned by a sister and brother the traditional Greek dwellings were joined up by a communal garden and small pool (the kids said it felt like the Love Island garden!) It was ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini June 8th 2018

I arrived early in the morning when none of the shops were open yet. Stepping out of the bus I was so excited! Everything looked sooo beautiful! It was just like in the movies and all the travel magazines I've read. Walking along the pathways next to the cliff facing the ocean I had to stop a few times to take in everything. What a lovely morning with clear blue sky, the peaceful Aegean sea, the Cycladic architecture; and to have that all to myself. I felt like I was in a movie. Lost in Santorini. I literally was except without the cameras. It was still winter but it wasn't so bad. It's just like spring in Korea, about 12C. I was having problems locating my hotel even with Google Maps. There were three other hotels ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini » Imerovigli May 25th 2018

Imerovigli, Santorini, Greece Trust me, the view’s not half bad, though I failed to take a decent picture of it. In my defence the caldera, from my viewpoint 1000 feet up, was too awesome to be truly ‘captured’. I had the same problem with the Grand Canyon. Neither I nor my camera were up to the task. In fact, in one sense, the manageress of Anastasis Apartments has one of the easiest jobs in the world. Every time a new guest arrives she checks them in and leads them to the rear of the hotel which is on the cliff top and, with a gentle wave of her hand, indicates the horizon. It’s stunning. I witnessed the performance several times. The manageress stands quietly by while the guests take the sight in. Some people gasp an ... read more
