Day 103: Kusadasi and Patmos

When we woke up we were docked at Kusadasi, so after breakfast we got off the boat and started to explore the markets. Because we were coming back to Kusadasi for 3 days on our Turkey tour we didn’t do the Ephesus tour which most people did. After about an hour of walking around the markets and getting hassled by Turkish men we found a cafe to sit and have a cold drink! We got back on the boat by 11.30am and then we set sail for the island of Patmos. While we were sailing there we had lunch, at the buffet again which we are absolutely loving – my favourite part about the buffet on the boat is that they have unlimited amounts of fresh fruit salad which is fantastic. We sunbathed up on the top deck for a while and then met the rest of our group just before we got to Patmos. We had to catch tender boats to the island because the boat was too big to dock at the port.

We had been told that the Saint John Monastery was the best thing to see on Patmos, so we decided to have a wander around

the shops then walk up to it because it was still really hot. I bought some new jandals because mine broke in Croatia, and then we had an ice-cream at a cafe with a really nice Greek owner. Rach loved him because he told her she looked as brown as he was! At about 6.30 we headed up to the monastery. It was about a 45min walk uphill and about halfway up we met a couple of people coming down who told us it had closed at 6! We were disappointed, but we still got to see the little chapel which was on the way up.

After our walk we caught the tender boat back to the ship and had some dinner, then we got ready for our Contiki cocktail party. We met the rest of our group in one of the lounges and got given a free cocktail which was great. A really nice couple from Adelaide who are on our tour had bought an unlimited drinks card so they also gave us a cocktail which meant it was a cheap night!
