Octopus
Gratuitous picture of Octopus NAXOS Naxos is a truly perfect Mediterranean island. Its a laid back and relaxing place with some of the best white sand beaches and clearest water we ve seen on our trip thus far. It has a lively port town (Chora) with fresh seafood restaurants and a storybook maze (no joke) of backalleys in the old town fit for exploring and shopping. Naxos also has an amazing mountainous interior with many hilltop villages, churches, and ancient sites. The interior of the island is also covered with vineyards, olive groves and citrus trees. Naxian wine is delicious, Naxian goat cheeses are first class, and home-cured olives and homemade olive oil are sold at almost every corner market. The island also has its own liquor - Kitron, which is apparently world famous...and tasty. (we went to the distillery for a tour and tasting)
While we were on Naxos, we toured the entire island on scooters, four wheelers and bikes, we snorkeled and sunbathed extensively, we watched more Mediterranean sunsets, and ate some amazing food. Naxos is the kind of place we'd like to bring our kids someday.
Yasas!
We are on to Santorini, and then Athen, and then Paris,
Naxos Town
Dusk. The main town on the island. and then home! We are on our last disc, so pictures for the next few blogs will come in 2 weeks.
