In a nutshell; PARTY!
Well actually there's more than that and it started on a little night bus that left from the heart of Athens overland and ferry to Corfu. I cant sleep on buses and especially not this one so entertained myself talking to canadian Sarah and Chris, playing Nintendo and watching Seinfeld. We rolled in to the Pink Palace at 5am to be greeted with welcome Ouzo shots, this set the tone for the week; no sleep and lots of drinking :D The Pink Palace is almost like a resort and includes meals with optional activites happening each day.
I tried to grab a few winks after arriving before heading down the 193 steps to the breakfast kitchen on the beach front. It was a beautiful day and i was informed they would be running the booze cruise that day starting at lunch time, it hadn't run for a few days due to bad seas so there were quite a few people keen to go and while i was tired i didnt want to miss out! Getting out on to the boat is a mission in itself and i slipped on the rocks dunking my bag and
bruising my ego, i later discovered i wasnt the only casulty as another guy had previously dislocated his shoulder doing the same, and i wouldnt be the last. The water at the boat ladder was up to my chest so i figured this was a cunning plan to get everyone soaked and into their swim gear asap. After helping everyone and their gear onboard the played the classic greek plate smashing song, we met the captain, the regulars proclaimed it a DFSP, and we were off.
Booze was cheap and there was plenty flowing, pretty soon everyone was in good spirits and enjoying the weather, music and sea air. Our first destination was cliff jumping where naked cliff jumpers were offered free drinks, the water was crystal and very refreshing, though a few people had sore landings. Scotty impressed us going last with a forward flip and we left for the bat cave. Everyone jumped off the boat and we swam 30m inside this pitch black cave and could see the bats flying overhead when we came out, we did some more cliff jumping at the entrance before having more drinks and heading to the beach to chill out
and have some food. On the way back to the Palace everyone was in very high spirits and were dancing on the deck and having a great time, Frenchy and the Captain have such a sweet job doing that every day during the summer!
I needed a nap by the time we got back and just made the final dinner cutoff, the meals here were really good, soup & bread, salad and a main each night. After dinner the dining room turns into a bar, then a club so its an eaaasy natural progression, I had my first Groove shot (= 4 mixed shots in a small glass with a red bull shot glass chaser) these are not to be triffled with and go straight where it counts! After that i was dancing like a madman with the Canadian girls Kat, Liz and Sabrina until the club closed and everyone still standing headed up to the *other* 24hr bar where i chatted with the American girls Roxy, Ahn and Judy before finally crashing just before sunrise!!
After such a big night the next day was *very* quiet. Some lessons are hard to learn! I kept to myself and
tried to catch up on some sleep, snuck down for dinner and fought off everyone telling me to party to go back to my room for an early night.
I was woken up early to the sound of quad bikes and found out at breakfast there was a tour running that day. I met Howard at breakfast who was also keen and we joined Brydie, the canadian girls and some old crazy loud american women. The quads were weak, 50cc automatics, but they did the trick and we cruised to a beach, through some cool little villages and up to some amazing lookout points over half a day. It was this morning that Howard informed the boys of an unlikely rumor he had heard about a busload of Slovanian girls arriving soon, I mean seriously, who is going to buy that? In the afternoon we also got to take some slightly offroad tracks, and I was the only one not shy about making full use of the mud!
That night is Toga party and after a shower it takes me a solid 5 minutes to figure out how the heck to tie the thing, even then its not
the best look. I was a little disappointed to find that I was one of the only guys brave enough to wear the toga to dinner, but shortly afterwards everybody started getting into the spirit of things. We had drinks, danced, had plates smashed on our heads and loved every minute of it!
It was another fairly big night so the next day was well spent with most of the crew just chilling out on the beach in the sun and playing a unique game of Volley-soccer-tennis. It was this afternoon when I headed up to my room that the greek gods must have been smiling on the boys as sure enough *the* fabled bus had actually arrrived! 43 Slovanian girls would now be gracing us with their presence. So that night was pretty sweet, plenty of dancing and drooling from the boys, and those girls can drink!
I was pretty partied out at this point, so was going to spend Monday organising to leave for Venice on the Tuesday, but as fate would have it the only day the ferry didn't run was Tuesday! This meant I could do something useful with my Monday... like go on
another booze cruise! This was as good as the first though the seas weren't as calm, this meant we couldnt get close enough to go into the bat cave so instead we visited a small church on this small island miles away from anything. There is an 80ft cliff jump here that wisely enough they dont let people do when alcohol is involved. More beaches, singing, dancing and frivolity was enjoyed by all, as well as some big swell deck jumping, good times. Another good dinner, a few more drinks and dancing and another late night ensued.
The next day I was *really* partied out, so I slept in and hung out with Canadian Jess for a late healthy breakfast before organising my next leg to Venice and having an afternoon nap. That night we all kept things pretty quiet and just all hung out together on the deck of one of the rooms, Canadian Rob unleshed his guitar and we listened to some tunes. I tried my best to go to bed at a reasonable hour since I had to be up at 5am to get a bus to the ferry which sailed at 7am, unsurprisingly there were
still a few cats drinking at the bar when i left.
Such was party life at the Pink Palace, not much to see, but plenty to do;
