Well, the last few days have been interesting to say the least... We actually had a really good cycling day out of Alexandroupolis.... It was Sunny, Clear, a bit cold, but we had a tail wind for a change... We made it to Komotini by 11am - which is where we were supposed to spend the night, but since we were having such a great day, we decided to push on to Xanthi, which was another 50K... I'm certainly glad we did, because this morning, it was cold AND it started raining with only 15K left to our destination. We finally got into Kavala before it really started coming down. Barry was actually nice - he sat me down at a Cafe, ordered me a cappuccino and went to look for a hotel.
Kavala is actually a really pretty town, built into the hillside. There are several beautiful beaches and other historical attractions such as a byzantine castle and Aqueducts. It's too bad that the weather isn't nice enough to actually enjoy them. Anyway -we actually might be stuck here for a few days. The forecast isn't looking too good, rain for the next few and actually snow into the
mountains of Bulgaria - we may be forced to bus some of the way. THANK GOD - Barry is not so hard-core that he would cycle in the snow or cold/rain combo.
Tomorrow - we are renting a car - we are driving the 400Km to see the village where my grandparents came from. Agia Sotira. So I'm quite looking forward to it. Not the long drive though.
