Hi Everyone, I'll keep this short and sweet. We have made it safely to Athens. The flight was long but Lufthansa serves really good food - and you get wine with dinner and shots with your coffee! I was always under the impression that it would cost you an arm and a leg on the plane. Anyways, we are exhasted - 25hrs awake and counting... I think its time for bed. We are off to Santorini tomorrow and hopefully we will have some pictures and exciting stories to tell! Cheers! Amie & Angele ... read more

Geo: 37.9792, 23.7166We've had a great day today. We arrived in Naxos yesterday from Athens after spending one night in a pretty nice room overlooking the Acroplis. It has taken us a couple of days to get into the Greek way of doing things but now we are into it and having a ball. We spent a fairly relaxing day in Paris strolling along the Siene (river) and checking out the Notre Dame. It was interesting watching the barges cruise down the river and looking in at all the little streets along the way. Not to mention the the fabulous food.I was into a cheese fix after being in Japan which was no problem in France. We didn't have anything in particular in mind apart from soaking up the atmosphere so just spent a bit of ... read more

It didn't happen yesterday, for which I am grateful, but today there is a public transit strike. No worries though, Leslie and I had plans to be tourists so we just walked all over town, all the way to the Acropolis. You can just imagine how it would have been minus all the city buildings, coming upon this huge creation at the top of a hill you can see for miles. I can see it right now from Leslie's place, and it's all lit up at night which is wonderful. There's been some deterioration of the structures because of the pollution, and most of the ancient buildings are surrounded by scaffolding, which is too bad because it totally ruins the look. Metal and ancient stones just should not mix, but otherwise it might fall down, and ... read more

Hey everyone, first update from 'on the road'. This entry is being typed by me (kelly) this time around, as I couldn't stand writing in the 3rd person, like footballers do. Anyway, we got here fine, courtesy of Thomson Hols, boy do I hate package holidays, flights full of chav familys, with lousy clothes and burberry luggage, but we survived check in nonetheless. This despite the fact that the SNOTTIEST scottish woman in all of Gatwick managed to check us in and seat us apart, across the flippin aisle from each other. Those of you that know me well (so all of you then!) know I hate take off, but I was a brave girl and managed not to die from fear, especially as I was unable to hold Ju's hand on take off. So, after ... read more

I got in at a ridiculously early time this morning, and met Leslie at the metro station. The overnight bus was quite the experience, lots of getting onto ferries (and off the bus) and back on and off again. Our driver was quite the character too... crazy driver for an oversized pink bus. Now I am in Athens at Leslie and John's place, and we are going to go to a travel agent and sort out some ferry stuff. Also, Leslie hasn't visited the Acropolis here (gasp!) so we are going to do some touristy stuff around the city, and go to the market in a little while. We are making Greek potatoes tonight too, and after trying them at the cute Lemon Tree cafe in Corfu well I guess I ought to learn to make ... read more

If people in Greek spoke Spanish I would think about moving there. The country is stunning and my time with the Kremidas family was so encouraging. The week started out with seeing Condoleezza Rice’s convoy rush from the Athens airport to the US Embassy. This was one of the many reminders of home as I got a taste of true hospitality from the Kremidas’. Getting to stay in a home with such good friends was a real treat. Damaris and I drove to Olympia on Wednesday and discovered that Greeks take their ruins very seriously. We got in trouble for trying to pose in front of a statue. Apparently it isn’t respectful to stand in front of the statue for a picture. At least I was able to reenact the athletes in the original stadium without ... read more
