I was beyond exhausted when I woke up knowing that our flight back home is hours away... Was I relieved? Maybe. Did I want to go home? No. I enjoyed every single day and moment I had in Greece... but I always felt that this trip would be incomplete if we didn't go and see Athens... too bad it was not part of the greece package we purchased... as I constantly try to persuade my friend to stay an extra day in athens, it was just not possible... So today, was the day that I bid adeu to this lovely country and hop in a looonngg ride back home....

As we met up with our group to find out which bus to take back to the airport... a very concerned looking tour guide stood right in front of us... In the beginning she apologized and went on... I was honestly half asleep... but as soon as I heard 'your flight is delayed' my brain woke up instantly... I wasn't too sure at the time if I would be excited about this or I'd dread it... Who likes getting stuck in the airport for hours right? Anyways our flight was delayed from leaving at 11am the plane we need to catch now leaves at 11pm...

Then... the unthinkable happened... its almost my wish was heard in heaven... Our tour guide said, to compensate the inconvenience, they booked us a hotel for the day right at downtown Athens where we have complimentary lunch and dinner and just to make sure we're comfortable and well rested until the transfer (bus) to the airport arrives to pick us up.... I had to blink for a second... trying to shake the tiredness away... and asked myself... am I hearing this right?? OMG... this is sweeeeettt....!!

So how fortunate for us to get hooked up with a hotel... but of course we weren't expecting much... besides it was only for the day... As we got dropped off and checked in in our hotel... It was beyond expectations... the hotel was very clean, modernize... and was just beautiful! What else can we ask for right??... But the point was... I was willing to pay extra $$ just to stay even for one day in Athens... although my friend would always disagree... but here we are!! In athens! Literally just for a day!

Given that we were exhausted... my friend wanted to sleep and rest... and this time I made a point of this very rare opportunity that if we don't go out and explore this city... when would we ever!? So luckily enough I was able to motivate her to get up from bed and start heading out in the street...

Now... at the time we were at Athens... they were going through some money problems... there were protests going on... and sometimes it becomes violent... so I just put that in mind... but I didn't let fear of what could happen get to me... at that time... all that was in my head was... go and explore...

As we walked through the streets... it was busy... but no pretesters around... and the city itself made us feel safe with their cops everywhere stationed from one point to another in their main streets with big guns... I mean who would want to mess with that right??

Only bad thing I could say about Athens is... seriously... some cab drivers are just too damn lazy!!... so we asked a couple of cab drivers... they were parked on the side of the road... what seemed like patiently waiting for custimers... why is that one of them had his feet up in the passenger window and rudely say 'no go and look for another one!'... anyways that was the end of it... we decided to explore the city on foot... So far it had been a very lucky day except for that cab encounter...

Along our journey to find the Acropolis... we met this guy in the street who was willing to take us to the Acropolis by foot since he's heading that way anyways... I mean... OMG... this day was just getting better and better....

As we navigated our way inside the Acropolis... getting on the very top was not an easy task by the way... there's too many stairs under the blazing hot sun... and not even a bottle of cold water does the trick...

But I must say... every hard work pays off... To see the Acropolis... to stand right in front of the Parthenon... took my breath away... I saw history in front of me... the pillars were beautifully kept intact.... it was as if I was back in history...

As our day ended with a nice meal... we finally said farewell to Greece... and I must say... I will definetely go back to this beautiful country...
