Whew...that was intense! I have chilled out, though. I am fortunate...I did not have to spend the night in the Stuttgart train station. Johann, my very gracious host, came and picked me up at midnight last night. It was about 30-45 min. from his home. I thank God for such gracious and welcoming hosts. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see his smiling face! We came back and Johann and Herme and I talked for a bit before going to bed. It was good to sleep in. I have been on the go for the last week or so. I am about to meet up with Miriam in 15 min. or so. For those of you that don't know, Miriam and Uller Otto came with Johann and Herme and their children to the ... read more

GERMANY Plus Six Driving Trip, May 20 - 31, 2005 Day 1: May 20, 2005, Friday We relaxed in the President’s Club lounge before boarding our 1:15 p.m. flight on a Continental 777 to Frankfurt via Newark. Our Business/First Class accommodations were comfortable, and the food & service were topnotch. The luxury seats featured a variety of position controls and individual monitors for dozens of movies, games, and music selections. After a few hours of sleep, we awoke in Frankfurt at 9 a.m. local time. Day 2: May 21, 2005, Saturday We picked up our rental car, a Volkswagen Golf, and set out on our driving adventure! It didn’t take long to get lost. Our intention had been to drive north along the western bank of the Rhine River, but after about an hour of driving ... read more

Well after 7 weeks of traveling im starting to look forward to going home. Im a bit burned out from sightseeing but now that im in Berlin i´m gonna try to get some energy from somewhere since theres a ton of cool stuff to see in this city, Hitlers bunker, remnants of the Berlin wall etc. so i think im gonna take a couple walking tours because its jsut makes it easier and you get a lot more out of the sights than just going and looking at them, its puts everything in some sort of perspective. Prague was cool but really hot, prob around 90 which really made it difficult to get motivated to see anything. I took a small tour and walked through the Prague castle myself but besides that I ddnt do too ... read more

Hi there everyone, sorry for lack of recent updates, we have been enjoying ourselves too much to be bothered to find and use a computer! Also sorry for no pictures on this blog yet as the internet cafe we are using is not geared up for such things and the only other one in town will not let us!! Trowbridge - Dover We left my brothers in Trowbridge after a weekend of fine food and beer (and some DIY - both on our bikes and my bro´s new house!) along the canal and then south across Salisbury plain, being careful to stay on thre main roads as all side tracks, including rights of way, have inviting signs such as "warning - beware of shells and mortar fire". Possibly good training for further on our trip but ... read more

So today I went to Wal-Mart and bought a bunch of stuff for my trip. The surrealness of the trip is fading into reality. I am absolutely thrilled about this trip; it's gonna be so very exciting! :) Tomorrow I will be heading to a luggage store to find something secure to hold my passport and other important documents inside. So does anyone have any information about going to Greece? While I'm in Europe I definitely want to go to Greece. There are other places I would like to go, but money is a problem. haha. I am going to Paris for a week at the beginning of August. That will be fun. During my seven weeks in Kassel, I hope to see a lot of Germany, including Berlin. The Love Parade is going to happen ... read more

Finally I take a real vacation! And what better way to spend it than on a bus load of new friends. First stop, Berlin. I arrive by train shortly after lunch. I have a few hours to fill before I meet my group so of course I go shopping. First purchase of the trip...orange shoes. :-) After dinner with my group we take a night time tour of the city that included a stop at Checkpoint Charlie. The next morning we embark on a city tour with stops and Brandenburg Gate, Pergamon Museum and the Berlin Wall among other sites. An afternoon in Potsdam where I visit the Cecilienhof Palace (where Stalin, Truman and Attlee signed the Potsdam agreement) and a stop at San Souci Palace. Since it's only the first stop on my tour I ... read more

Arrival Abroad My long awaited trip to reconnect with family, friends, and to log in new experiences under my already seasoned travel pro belt, has finally begun! From the time I bought my plane ticket to the day of departure, I have been waiting in anticipation for this day. It has been three years since I've returned to my homeland of Germany - far too long than I care to admit. For someone who has grown accustomed to spending summers abroad, being on lockdown in a full-time job feels like burning weights on my soul. Thankfully the young guy sitting next to me on the plane was a good looking Swed. He had just returned from a surfing adventure in South America and was on his way back home. I guess he hadn't been in the ... read more

Heading north we enter Germany en route to Heidelberg for an orientation tour. Then onto the picturesque town of St Goar in the Rhine Valley before reachong our hostel. Still raining this morning, the waterfall and river were really flowing. We left at 8 and crossed the border back into Germany. Had our lunch stop at Heidelberg, a university town, where the first university was built in 1386. Went up to the castle and saw the world's largest wine vat, which holds 221 726 litres of wine, and also went to the pharmacy museum. This is where Robrert Bunsen went to uni. Arrived in St Goar and went straight to the beer stein place, and saw the world's largest free hanging cuckoo clock. Had dinner at a restaurant, then went to our wine tasting down ... read more

Sorry for the delay in the update, last night I spent a lot of time at the hostel trying to find a place to stay in Venice (we leave for a night train to Venice in 2 hours), so I didn't get a lot of time to update. Yesterday we went to the Dachau concentration camp, which was very interesting and took a lot longer than we thought it would take, mostly because it was a lot bigger than we thought. It was very depressing and it made the rest of the day a bit sadder. After that we came back to Munich and walked around for a while. We went to the Marienplatz, a square by the old city hall which houses a very large cuckoo type clock, and we also saw a bunch of ... read more
