Wow, I haven't had the time to write in a while, and now I'm daunted by the thought of having to write about everything that has happened. I made it through Basel. It was a wonderfully overwhelming experience. I went to some interesting lectures and panel discussions on the art market today and important things to consider when collecting contemporary art. I saw a plethora of amazing works by well known modern and contemporary artists, as well as number of beautiful and/or intriguing pieces by people I had never heard of before. I made an effort to write every name I was interested in down so I can start to follow their carreers. I also kept track of pieces I would want to buy if I was a Russian oligarch, such as a magnificent piece by ... read more

Hello every one. We all made it safe and sound to Berlin. After we arrived we met our tour guide and he is a very nice guy. we first went for a lunch break at a big shopping mall called Potsdamer platz. After that we checked into our hotel which is in a great spot and seems to be quite comfortable. went to see Brandenburg gate and walked through a neat memorial to the Jews from WWII. After a quick check in, we went down to the old city and visited the big cathedral in town. we were able to get in for free as a school group and we really enjoyed the cathedral, called locally as the Berliner Dom. We were able to climb to the top and get a great view of the city. ... read more

Having just made a solo trip to visit my long-lost husband in Berlin, I find myself writing about air travel yet again! You’d think that getting to and from Berlin from here should be a piece of cake after my trips across the Atlantic with The Toddler, but travelling with easyJet always adds the element of unknown - including mysterious delays and the strangest noise on arrival at Gatwick, like someone was sawing off a wing. EasyJet’s boarding policy is basically a free-for-all with no assigned seats - like going to the cinema - and this, I decided, brings out the worst in everyone. With no jet bridge at the low-cost airport in former East Germany, passengers simply peg it to the airplane and scramble up the steps. People who’ve paid extra for speedy boarding can’t ... read more

Neil and I successfully met up in Berlin, in what may very well be the largest train station in Europe. It's not that we planned it that well, it's more that I figured out which train he was probably arriving on and tried to stand in a place where I could see people coming down the stairs off of the platform, and we got kind of lucky. We stayed at Jetpak City Hostel. With a name like that, how could we say no? Actually, it may be the best hostel we stayed at so far. And it's won a bunch of awards for being the best hostel in Europe. So a good place to stay if you're heading to Berlin. Berlin is not expensive either. I think it's the cheapest city we've stayed in so far. ... read more

Monday 9th June A fair journey on the bus, arrived Koblenz in a beautiful 30/32 degrees which was much appreciated. Tents quickly up on a pitch with a beautiful view onto the river, the castle and the famous statue. Realised hadn’t quite put the tents up right, so a quick change of poles to the OUTSIDE of the tents! Took some time to get hold of the ‘rules’ for the site. Headed into Koblenz after dinner & meeting for a look around & some photo opps, finishing up at the statue. Long walk back round! Tuesday 10th June Boat cruise down the river Rhine. Notes were confusing and thought it was half-hour -soon found out it was 2 hours, and Gisella was meeting a friend. No-one really wanted to cruise for 2 hours, so we got ... read more

June 7, 8, 9, 2008 BERLIN, Germany After a short drive Saturday morning from Prague we arrived to a beautiful day in Berlin. Again the drive was great, on good highways, and through some more beautiful country side. We were talking today about all the scenery we have seen and for both of us the scenery around the Austrian Alps and Munich ( Bavaria ) is the most interesting we have seen so far. On this whirlwind adventure we have seen a lot ( we mean A LOT !!! ) of very beautiful places and they all have their own special character. We took the local TRAM in Berlin from our hotel to city center and some general snooping around. The tram is great and the station stop is literally accross the street from the hotel. ... read more

Just like the photos, the place is really nice. Under attack from tourists and American students during the day, but worth it. Did a self guided walking tour off the tourist office map, took a million pics, and had NO RAIN!!! A nice change. Stayed in a B&B that was pretty nice too and not very expensive either.... read more
