gotta love graffiti...
Location: Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Trier
Length of Stay: 5 Days
Cost per Day: $116

Berlin... well... Its certainly not going to win any beauty pageants, but you know what... I still really liked it...
Its big, its dirty, its grungy, its very alternative, got loads of history and its got attitude with a capital A... I would definitely return... Oh and the music... I heard some really great stuff in the short time I was there... Did you know that techno/electronic dance originated from Germany... Berlin & Frankfurt are the techno capitals... so say the tourist brochures... online says the States... fantastic in any case... I have always loved the stuff...

There are some really good tours you can do in and around Berlin... Here is just one that I thought would be really interesting to do...

3RD REICH BERLIN - Hitler & WWII - the final days

* The rise and fall of Nazi Germany. Starting in the heart of west Berlin before the spire of the bombed out Memorial Church, get a full description of the ferocity of the Allied bombing campaign and the defence of the Nazi Reich Capital; the Cross of Coventry and the Madonna of Stalingrad
* Discover the remains of the 1000 year Reich and see Georing's Air Defence Ministry, the site of Goebbel's Propaganda Ministry, and the ruins of Himmler's SS and Gestapo HQs by the Topography of Terror exhibit
* Take an imaginary stroll down the North-South axis of "Germania" designed by Albert Speer
* Up and beyond the average, we follow the route of the Soviet attack towards the final battlefield for the Reichstag and stop before the Soviet Memorial flanked with T-34 Tanks and Red Army Howitzers
* Visit the site where Hitler's 3rd Reich Chancellory stood and the exact location of the Fuhrer Bunker - we provide a step by step account of Hitler's suicide, the last days spent in the bunker, and the fate of his remains
* Visit the old Bendler Block, location of Stauffenberg's assassination after the failed July 20th 1944 assassination attempt on Hitler's life. This building, site of the final curtain in the Operation Valkyrie, now houses the German Resistance Museum

Had a little misadventure when catching my departure train out from Munich...

Heres the thing... Munich is right at the bottom of the country... So if you are doing some further looking in Germany, most other worthy destinations are West, North West or North East...
I went from Munich to Trier which was North West... checked the departure board... and hopped on the right train on the right track at 5.34am... so very, very early...
At 7.30am, my train came to a standstill and terminated at a station I wasnt supposed to go to... ?!... I was very confused as I was certain I hopped on the right train...
Turns out my train once it got out of Munich separated into 2 trains... one part went North West (where I wanted to go) and the other part went North East (where I didnt want to go and where I ended up)...

So... make sure you check and double check that you sit in the right carriage... was a bit funny really...

More beer talk... Munich the capital of Bavarian region is major beer drinking country... Bavarians are known as some of the world's most beer-loving people with an average annual consumption of 170 litres per person... sheesh... and of course Munich is the location of Oktoberfest... I saw some very impressive looking beer bellies walking the streets... they have obviously been in training for many years...

Ok... thats it for now... Luxembourg is next... x
