Sorry that this entry is a little late. We had a wonderful day in Warnemunde, the port for Berlin. We chose not to take the 2 1/5 hour train journey to Berlin-and made the right decision as the weather was fantastic. Warnemunde has a famous beach which is within easy walking distance from the pier. The town is very quaint with cobbled streets and lots of very pleasant little shops selling some high-end goods. I saw a dress/shirt for Carole. I wandered into the shop only to find the dresses at £600 and the shirt a snip at a mere £130. Needless to say I left in a hurry.
The town grew very lively as the day continued. The atmosphere was outstandingly good-natured with clean streets, pleasant people and a real carnival feel to the whole place. We sampled a local beer-well, it would have been rude not to…We bought some souvenirs which did not include a seagull Carole saw as a small statue. Have I mentioned that I hate seagulls? No? You try living on the coast and then say if you still like ‘em.
In the evening we took advantage of a half-price offer to eat in the Chin-Chin restaurant on board ship. We have both been very impressed with the standard of the cuisine and this was no exception. We have also been enjoying our evenings in ‘bar city’ listening to live music. Last evening we went on to see a show in the theatre. It featured a good performer who was funny as well as a top-notch singer. Again-full marks.
I have been taking pictures regularly and it’s a pity I can’t download them quickly. The port here is incredibly busy with an eclectic selection of craft using the facilites. At one point there were naval craft, tall ships, liners, ferries as well as numerous pleasure-craft.
Today (Thursday?) we are all at sea. That makes a change from our normal state…We are headed for Estonia and will be docking at Tallin. Today we shall be mainly resting.
