After months of anticipation,, our travel day finally arrived! We met Jamie and Alec in Fort Myers from their connecting flight and then off to Germany. We had a quick bite to eat before boarding and then a trip to the Air Berlin Lounge for an overview of German geography and trip kick-off festivities! Jamie will always remember her first international flight by her proximity to the bathroom. Let's just say she had constant entertainment for the ten hour flight (but not much sleep)! After a connection in Dusseldorf, we were off to Dresden where we were met at the airport by Ines, Berndt and Friedi. Tired from the flight but ready for our adventure to begin, Ines chose a very nice Biergarten for our first stop. Kids enjoyed their first bratwurst of the trip and the fun began! Ines was so thoughtful to take the time to tell the kids all about the Dresden area and make them feel so welcome here, complete with a welcome balloon at the airport. After lunch, we made the short drive to Moritzburg, our "home away from home" for the next few days and the site for our special wedding celebration with our German

family. Very tired, yet determined to get on the proper sleep schedule, we pushed through the fatigue and after getting settled in our rooms, we were off to the Abenteuerpark (Adventure Park) adjacent to the hotel grounds. The next few hours were filled with much fun and laughter as we navigated through a challenging ropes course in the treetops. Another excellent suggestion by Ines as it provided a great opportunity to do something new together and a chance to really get to know each other....great ice breaker and great way to stay awake and stretch our muscles after a long flight. Next, we visited the Moritzburg castle of August the Strong and found a cute patio for dinner. Jamie tried the pork medallions and Alec had his first traditional schnitzel before they basically fell asleep at the table. It was a perfect end to our first day of Gruenewald Family Vacation!
