Sankt Goar Train Station
Sankt Goar Train Station Today was our day to train-it to Koblenz and Boppard for some sightseeing. After another good breakfast, we walked up to the train station in Sankt Goar and caught the train to Koblenz, after a slight delay due to a mixup reading the schedule. Arriving in Koblenz, we walked the 2 kilometers to the main attraction in Koblenz, Deutches Eck. Deutches Eck, also known as German Corner, sits at the confluence of the Mossel and Rhine Rivers. It is a combination of the German States and a pair of walls constructed after the original statue of Kaiser (Emperor) Wilhelm was damaged by an American artillery shell in WWII. In 1993, a copy of the original Kaiser was added. Another attraction in Koblenz is the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the opposite bank. We thought about taking the cable car across, but decided it wasn't worth it to spend the rest of the day exploring it. Instead, we continued shopping and seeing the sights in Koblenz. For "lunch", we'd decided to find a nice bakery and have coffee and some sort of decadent sweets. We ended up eating at Cafe Werrmann. Besides coffees, we ordered an almond cheesecake with Bavarian cream and apple strudel
Kurfürstliches Schloss
Kurfürstliches Schloss with ice cream. Both were delicious and quite filling, totaling about 14 Euros.
We shopped and explored for a while after lunch, then returned to the train station for the trip to Boppard, which lies between Koblenz and Sankt Goar. In Boppard we tried to locate the Tourist Information center, but ended up just strolling around and shopping. For dinner, we found out from a nice guy at a cafe that the best place in town for traditional German food was Severus Stube, so we decided to try it out. It was a nice little restaurant off the main street and the prices looked good. Manoli had a large salad with shrimp that she said was quite good, and must have been since she finished completely. I wanted to try something with sauerkraut, so I order a pork filet and bratwurst with sauerkraut and grilled potatoes. It also was quite good, and I couldn't quite finish. Here the bill was around 23 Euros. After dinner, we caught the next train to Sankt Goar and retired to the hotel since it was getting late.
Tomorrow we leave for Luxembourg. We'll be taking a train to Koblenz, then another to
