schloss Burg
part of the castle coming in Today the weather was bad during the day. The rain as been pooring violently to the ground and the wind is blowing hard. It's pretty cold and very much like Fall. The air last night was so cold that it actually smelled like winter is near by.
Today my plan had been to go to Phantasialand with Beatrice and 2 other friends, but yesterday at the last mintue Beatrice called me and told me some sad news that one of the girl's grandfather had passed away so she wouldn't be able to come with us so it was preferable to go another day instead and anyways the weather had not anounced itself to be nice so it does not matter that we didn't go. We will just go back some time during a weekend in october. Instead Bea offered me to go to Schloss Burg with her if I wanted and we could both have a typical Bergishe meal afterwards. Schloss Burg is a medievil Castle near by. It's in Soligen's country side. And about 10 mintues by bus from where I am. This afternoon Bea came to get me at home and we ran to the bus stop on
Beatrice
At the entrance main street because we where about to miss the bus since it was passing at 1:20 and it was about 1:15. We ended up reaching the bus stop in time to catch the bus.
One the bus Bea was trying to explain to me how the German political systeme works. And so on I do not know how we got into that but that used up all are time we had in the bus. We got off infront of the castle and made a short tour around the ground before heading in but it was raining still quite a bit so we didn't stay outside to long. It's really pretty. Not the type of castle I was looking for but I guess it's because my Idea of a castle is more a mansion with big rooms lovely furniture and so on but this castle is the real castle of medievil days. Schloss Burg to give you and idea was built in 1133 by a wealthy Count Adolf ll von Burg. it then was enlarged in the 1200's the fallowing owner of the castle Adolf lll was killed in a the fifth crusade in Eygpt in a fight to get

entering inside the grounds of the castle the holy land or something. Beatice did her best to transalate everything for me in english since there was no incriptions in english only a cheat little booklet you could buy at the entrance for 2.50 euros which is expensive for nothing according to me, well for what it was. We went around the castle it was really lovely. The castle fell to ruins in the 1600's during the 30 years war and well it was only in recent years (1880-1929) that they have restored it to what it is today so the interior is fairly new. I expected it to have furniture but there wasn't alot. a few exibistion of knives, swords, medievil armours where there. as well as other galleries of what it was like to live back in those days.
After that we went to a small restaurant and had a typical meal of the region which was more like a breakfest nothing to fancy for the price. 9 euros each but it did look good although it wasn't as good as I expected. So far I have not had a really delicious meal that was so much different then back home or better. Maybe it
is because I like the local cuisine I grew up with more since I've always been use to it but people told me I would eat well in Germany and I do not find that the case. It's average so far. But the meal was still good a waffel and breads and salami meats and coffee. Bea and I talked a while the view from the restaurant was really nice but I ran out of batteries with my camera to be able to take any pictures after we finished I offered to pay for Bea's meal when the lady came back with the bill at the end I told her to keep the change which was about 2 euro's she was actually really happy. Bea was telling me that people don't leave very much tipp here.
After her mom picked us up and I got back here. She's the only friend I really found that's been really nice with me. It's at her birthday party I went to last saturday for those who didn't make the connection. lol
Here are pictures finally I took some tomorrow I'm going to Köln. Hopefully it's nice outside
