Today's "at sea" day we have the last two lectures by Kristof. In the morning, ❇The vikings - raiders, traders , settlers❇ and after lunch, ❇Cold war and daily life in East Germany❇ These subject were very interesting. We bid farewell to Kristof and Vibeke because they leave the ship early tomorrow morning to return to Denmark for a teaching assignment there. Bevor euch langweilig wird, hier gleich der nächste Mini-TR mit einem Abstecher in das herbstliche Meck-Pomm. Etwas sorgen bereitete uns die Anzeige des Münchner Flughafens am Vorabend, denn neben einem Typenchange auf CR7 war auch bereits ein Delay von 45 Minuten angezeigt und das mehr als 12h vor Abflug. Das lies ja richtig zu hoffen, auf einen pünktlichen Start. Zumindest hatten wir so genügend Zeit uns entspannt das Frühstück in der SEN-Lounge schmecken zu lassen. Ruegen - Germany's biggest island, located in the Baltic Sea. Although one is tempted to say it is cold and windy, that is not true during the summer. Crystal blue water, huge chalk cliffs, and small towns near the sea - so-called "Ostseebäder" invite you for a walk. For us, the little "long weekend trip" started on Wednesday (28.07.2010). The 6-hour-car ride made us pass the first "sight", the new "Ruegenbruecke" with its length of 2,831 meters. The bridge connects Stralsund and Ruegen. As we arrived at the campsite the beach next to it and the crystal-clear water were very appealing, so we went for a swim, and called it a day. 8/1 Awoke early and wrote my blog and enjoyed a breakfast buffet before leaving for the port. The Eurodam is the newest and largest vessel in the fleet. I was checked in and on board by 11:45 and directed to the dinning room for lunch. Met Alison from Toronto who is on CruiseCritic and Madelyn and Gerry from Michigan. All three were exhausted as they flow in last night and just arrived this AM. Just confirmed my decision to come across one day early. Sitting in the Crow’s Nest and enjoying the view of the harbor while all around me passengers are sacked out for a rest. Our ferry crossing to Rostock in Northern Germany was smooth, and I spent much of the time up on the sun deck. It was quite windy though, and I felt like I was going to blow overboard as Lara took these photos! Rostock has a nice beach, which you can see from the ferry, then you head in to the dock past several really huge cruise liners - our ferry seemed very small in comparison!... read more
