Frankfurt is exactly what I like in my travels: a cool places with great people. After Berlin, Frankfurt and it's (-2) to 2 was nice, warm and welcoming. I could wander around the streets!! and I did, enjoying the churches and renovated buildings without the need to worry where is the next warm place I could protect myself... I even went to the Museum to watch Botticelli's art exhibition and could line up (with dozens of others) for 30 minutes in the open air and enjoy it!!
oh, BTW, in Berlin I've visited “the Picasso story” (can't get the website working, google it..) and it was great, most recommended and it's great for kids too...
enough with the culture thing, people might get the wrong impression of me!
I met some great people in Frankfurt. Alexander, whom I've couchsurfed with (couch surfing is great people who open their houses and hearts to travelers, letting them stay in their place sleeping on mattress, couch, bed, whatever and spend some time with them - showing the travelers the place, talking about life and all sorts of other things, most of them are travelers themselves..) was a great host, at first he introduced me
at the outdoor gear shop
click on the photo for details to his beloved Frankfurt and later on he opened a window into his life, growing up in East Germany, being at the right age (17) when the wall fell, in a way, continuing my Berlin's quest (in a warmer place) and bringing me back to the present, when we have compared Israeli's and German's dating cultures.... (believe me, there is a difference..)
in parallel to my deep conversations with Alexander I went crazy with great people I met, going clubbing, karaoking, drinking, watching football etc, which leads me to - - -
Friends
I have friends from all over the world, the Israeli friends are friends of pre-traveling Merav, the others (most of them) are from my travels. I believe that if I'll get the opportunity to introduce those 2 groups they would never believe that they know the same person. Pre-traveling friends knows me as the organizer, the one who's always planning, a bit bossy, isolated, citygirl (city =Tel Aviv), hates leaving her protected place, working crazy hours and always in a hurry to get somewhere.. those who knows me from my travels knows someone who's drifting, has no plans or idea where she's going or
what to do, always free to join others, easy to adjust and feels home where ever she is.
For me, becoming a “loose agenda” person is a result of a decision I made. I took the decision not to plan, I took a decision to slow down and “do one thing a day”, I took the decision to open myself up to others and to other lives, realities, cultures and nature. Most people are one of the both - they are usually very focused and motivated or drifters without a clue. I don't think that there are many people that can do both (and accept the internal permanent struggle with love)
I can give you the last example - in Frankfurt I got drunk (haven't happened in years...) went to a karaoke club (NEVER happened) and found myself dancing (for the first time in more then 10 years) etc.. the Frankfurters thinks I'm a “party animal”, pre-travel friends were shocked. most of the reactions I got for this trip-story sounded like: “you?????? u're joking, right?”
this trip wouldn't have happened without those great people I've met in the last 5 years. All of my fiends let me in to their
lives, opened up their houses, introducing me to their families, friends, traditions, cultures and I can't thank them enough..
