Today is technically the last day off my trip.. My European adventure, I have a day in Rome tomorrow cos I couldnt get a flight out of Frankfurt with my new itinerary, and then a few days in Rome but as far as Im concerned today is really the last day.. That hasnt quite sunk in yet.. This time next week, I'll be back in my own house...
So Frankfurt, the 5th largest city in Germany, home to the biggest airport anywhere in Europe, home to 400odd different banks and the main headquarters of the Eurobank, the place where Euro notes are made.. Not a tourist place Frankfurt, it is a business town and yet, I love it here! its got such a good feel to it, i cant explain it, all i know is I love it, reminds me of Munich but much better
85% of the town was destroyed during world war 2 and as a result, you have buildings that are 200yrs old in the foreground to buildings that are only two years old.. the contrast is Frankfurt.
The weather here is something else.. One moment its hot and sunny and the next, cold
and raining, and only 2mintues have passed! Again... Thats Frankfurt...
My hotel is in the best location I've had so far.. Across the road from the trainstation and postoffice, around the corner is an internet cafe and a laundry.. and best of all.. right next door.. AN IRISH PUB! Which serves good priced food, not to mention cider :P This fantastic pub is in the same building where Oscar Schlinder used to live! Why its a pub and not a museum, I will never know...
Began my trip with a city tour, hence how I know all the above mentioned facts! very funny guide and was very entertaining, in the two hours we were on this tour.. I swear the weather changed 10times..
Wednesday started pretty well by me scoring internet! As I was waiting to buy time, this lovely aussie girl offered me the rest of hers as she was finished! Half an hour worth of time, exactly what I wanted.. Score!
Went on a day tour out to the Rhine Valley later that day, took a steamboat for 2hours up the Rhine which went past/ or through, the towns and villages on the Rhine,
boats really arent my thing, I used to think it was because I got seasick.. Now I think its because they are so boring! haha... Also took us on a cable car ride which would have been alot better had it not been raining and also took us winetasting.. Wine shots is more like it! But was a good tour nevertheless..
Was watching the cars on the AutoBahn on the way back to Frankfurt, this is the German highway and on some parts there is no speed limit, you can go as fast as you want! Its scary watching how fast some of these cars zoom past.. Equally scary to watch them keep up with ICE trains which can go up to 300km/hr..
