Auf Wiedersehen (Goodbye)

It is 4pm and we are sitting in our hotel room composing the last blog before catching Delta home in the morning. Frankfurt is a beautifully picturesque town (oh what a lie that is), but we do have a couple of shots from our window of the Main River, which is cute. By the way, our hotel, although not four stars like Innsbruck is markedly superior and cheaper. When in Innsbruck avoid Sailer, but in Frankfurt Ibis is a good choice.

We departed Rothenburg before nine this morning (quite early for us) and drove to Viernheim where we were entirely unable to locate anything remotely resembling our old apartment. So we abandoned this effort and drove along the tram line we used to take into the army facilities, and bingo we discovered old army housing (we lived briefly in that area before transferring to Kaiserslautern). The military has since left, some of it seemingly being replaced by a shopping center.

Then on to Frankfurt to pack in anticipation of our upcoming flight to see Sally, Ben, M1 & 2, and yes even the other four. Rather bitter sweet to leave. Europe has been full of sights, enjoyable people and experiences. With some exceptions down south, this continent is home to cultured and sophisticated people, yet rarely the pompousness we see in the U.S. They even treated us well. We would come again but not stay quite as long nor travel as much.

Finally a word about the driving. We have previously complained about Italian drivers. Yep, they clearly remain the worse. We saw four accidents in Europe, all in Italy. In Germany, where there is no speed limit on many of the autobahns, no accidents, yet people travel way over 100 mph. We exceeded 100 only once or twice keeping up with traffic. Good roads and good drivers who obey rules, unlike what is found in Italy.

Yes, it was an ugly win, but we are 6-1. Go Falcons.
