Nearly a full day's train ride through Germany landed us in Hamburg, another city that Barb and I have been in before and so enjoyed that we wanted to share the experience with Larry & Lisa. The unseasonable cool and wet weather that dogged us through most of Switzerland seemed to continue chasing us up through Germany as well so we spent most of our outdoor time in warm, water proof clothing! We had 3 basic goals on our list, the first was a visit to the absolute BEST display/collection of model railroads (and a lot more stuff) than we have found in all our travels. Tuesday Febr. 25 In the morning, we walked down some "atypical" streets in Hamburg, visited Basti's office (he works for tis-group), had lunch at a very quaint restaurant. Then later went to the miniature museum.... read more

2-23-15 began day with plans to take a boat ride on the lake in the city center (Binnenalster) and walked down but the boats were not going because not enough people wanted to ride (was Monday, not tourist season, overcast) so we decided to walk around the lake (2 photos). The art museum was closed on a Monday, so we sat in a nice café overlooking the lake and had coffee and read our nooks for a bit. Basti picked us up at 1 pm and we went to a shopping mall that, except for the signs being in German, looked like any American mall. (in Germany, you can shop with your dog! photo). Geo: 53.5534, 9.9922Morgens um vier geht es los. Wir werden im Kleinbus abgeholt.Nach Yangon sind es zu dieser Zeit etwa fünfeinhalb Stunden Fahrt. Die erste Stunde nach Pathein ist anstrengend, denn hier quälen wir uns durch Serpentinen. Danach nimmt der Verkehr zu, aber es wird auch langsam hell. Ein schönes Bild, wie die Sonne über der Ebene aufgeht.Gegen 9:30 Uhr sind wir am Flughafen und können etwas später einchecken. Dann heißt es auch bald Abschied nehmen von Amandine, denn sie fliegt über Bangkok nach Hause. Schön war es mit Ihr.Recht pünktlich startet dann unser Flug nach Kunming. In Kunming müssen wir aussteigen, obwohl der gleiche Flieger nach Chengdu weiterfliegt. Die Grenzbeamten nehmen es sehr genau und es dauert ein wenig, ehe sie uns wirklich glauben, dass wir China nur in Transit besuchen.Der folgende Flug w... read more
