Bremen. We got to Bremen after a long train ride from Koln. I got off the train and immediately saw Julian walking down the station holding three beers in the air. Welcome to Bremen. It was about a 20 minute walk from the station to his apartment and it was really hot. We were pouring sweat when we got to his apartment. We sat down for a little bit and just talked about our trip so far, and caught up on everything. Not long after we changed for the night and went to dinner. Bremen was a beautiful city, and not nearly as big as Cologne or Frankfurt. We picked a mexican restaurant the was right beside all the drinking stands that Julian likes to hang out at. After dinner, we went home for a few ... read more

One of the largest benefits of traveling to another country is developing a greater understanding of another culture. I have been lucky to be able to stay with two German families within the past week and have learned a great deal from both of them. I want to thank Mike, Ines and their children Liam and Lily for allowing me to stay with them in Heidelberg; and would also like to thank Julia, Bruno, and their children Phillip, Anna, Isabella and Janina for accommodating my travels in the Frankfurt area. I feel blessed to have been able to become a part of your families, if even for a few days. It is through your help that I have certainly developed a much greater understanding of German culture and how it differs from that found within the ... read more

26th and 27th August 2010 rain and more rain took the opportunity to do some shopping and then visited the fantastic science centre at Bremen University called Universum ( www.universum-bremen.de ). The Science Center contains around 250 interactive exhibition the themes of mankind, earth and cosmos. Highlights include an Earthquake sofa allowing you to experience the movement caused one of the 3 biggest quakes of the last century, a walk in womb ( I left the detail of this for Max to explain to the boys ) and a simulation of the big bang and the creation of the universe - all in all a great way to spend a rainy afternoon ! Finally take a look at the beast that parked up next to us at the site in Bremen Max is still suffering from ... read more

I'll start with a general update. The weather has warmed such that we don't need the heater on at night. David hasn't worn his long johns for about 5 days and I am now wearing shorts and a t-shirt without a tank top underneath for warmth. In terms of rain, it is supposed to rain on and off most of this week so we are planning as we go and the clouds move. Don't think I have told you before, but the days are very long this far north. Doesn't get dark until at least 10:00 PM. One campground had a laundry room with only small windows and no lights. Surprised me at first, but since they aren't open in the winter why would they need lights. Doubt anyone does laundry after 10:00 PM. Here are ... read more

So yes I have made it to Bremen. The countryside here is breathtaking. I mean really. It reminds me of pictures of Marin before all the people and when horses and cows were prevelent; or so I hear. Today was a lazy day. Laundry and walking around looking for a grocery store, which I splattered my yogert all over one of the isles. Go me. There are German Warmbloods every where. Horses, dairy cows, and sheep are the main thing here. At least that is what is smells like. Later in the afternoon there was that unmistakable smell of cow shit. I felt like I was back home, except for the 600 year old church staring at me with gold on its ficad. Aparently my german is worse than I thought. I understand more french than ... read more

i just arrived here. it was freezing cold during the airport transfer. They said that temp is around 3 degres celcius. Not something that i am used to have in the Philippines. well, at the airport, nobody speaks english except for the people in the airline announcing boarding of plane and of course in british accent. this is really catharsis!! 2 young girls at my left side speaks espanole of some sort.. while group of guys on the stall near c23 (the gate where i should be going to line up for boarding) speak russian. well, ams to bre was rather short, compared to the 15 hours i had on mla to ams. i rode klm airline.. well, the flight was somehow confy although at first the entertainment system wouldnt work so they needed to fix ... read more

BREMEN!!!! November 10-16, 2008 So sorry I’m way behind now with my blogs and will continue to apologize as I’m positive I’ll always be behind. So second week! I absolutely loved Bremen, it’s by far one of my favorite cities. Our hotel was ok and it was about 15 minutes walking distance from the center of the city. Bremen is definitely not a large city but has a beautiful center with a lot of character and history. One of the famous stories involving Bremen is the Bremen Town Musicians (German Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten, also translated as The Musicians of Bremen) which is a fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm. Despite the title of the fairy tale the animals never actually arrive in Bremen. “In the story a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a ... read more
