Berlin - DDR walking man
This iconic DDR walking man symbol remains at crosswalks in East Berlin. We drove our car 3,300 km from Minsk, Belarus where we are teaching to see the cities, Christmas markets and quiet snow covered countryside of Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic and eastern Germany.
We spent three nights in an East Berlin apartment enjoying the urban daily routines of a working neighborhood. We found some great restaurants. We finally mastered the public transportation system and hit many of the major sites: Brandenburg Gate, remains of the Berlin Wall, and communist murals. We skipped the museums. We are so used to clean and tidy Minsk that the graffiti other European cities is sometimes overwhelming.
